Newsom Says DSA Will Become Dominant and Mainstream in Democrat Party
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) was recorded on Oct. 17 in New Hampshire telling an undercover journalist that the Democratic Socialists of America would become dominant inside the Democrat Party. The journalist presented herself as a younger voter, saying young people wanted more democratic socialist policies. Newsom replied, “No one is arguing to manage the status quo and fail more efficiently.”
He continued, “So the DSA, the energy and the desire and demand for bold change, not incremental change, is very much going to be dominant. I mean, that’s going to be a mainstream democratic movement. Absolutely. No question about that.” He added, “You can’t play in the margins anymore. The system’s broken. It’s completely unbalanced, and we can’t manage the decline. We have to completely reimagine.” Newsom was campaigning for Democrat congressional candidate Stefany Shaheen at the time.
Why It Matters
A leading Democratic governor stating on camera that the Democratic Socialists of America will become the dominant and mainstream force in the party removes any remaining ambiguity about the party’s direction. The call to “completely reimagine” the system matches the DSA’s open rejection of capitalism and limited government. That shift is a threat to the constitutional order the country was built on.
US Attorney Investigates Three Arizona Groups for Registering Non-Citizens
U.S. Attorney Timothy Courchaine for the District of Arizona announced that his office has opened a case into three nonprofit organizations for registering non-citizens to vote. The groups are Stand Indivisible Arizona, Worker Power, and When We Count, a Democratic National Committee program. The matter has been referred to the FBI for a thorough federal investigation. Courchaine sent letters on Oct. 26 to Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes and Maricopa County Recorder Justin Heap.
In the letters, he wrote that, based on written and video reports, personnel acting on behalf of the organizations “either intentionally disregarded or were recklessly ignorant of Arizona’s law prohibiting the registration of non-citizens in elections.” He said it appears the groups “may have violated A.R.S. § 16-182 by knowingly causing or procuring another person to be registered while knowing that person is not entitled to register to vote.” The investigation follows undercover video showing volunteers from the groups interacting with individuals posing as non-citizens and felons. Courchaine’s office reminded the public that only U.S. citizens can vote.
Why It Matters
Federal prosecutors opening a case into Democratic-aligned groups for potentially registering non-citizens days before an election raises the prospect of deliberate efforts to dilute the votes of actual citizens. The referral to the FBI and letters demanding review of the registrations show that the claims were not dismissed as routine campaign noise. Non-citizen registration strikes at the core of election integrity.
Biden-Appointed Judge Blocks Trump Administration Demands on Election Officials
U.S. District Judge Trina Thompson, a Biden appointee in San Francisco, issued a temporary restraining order Friday barring the Justice Department and Department of Homeland Security from threatening state and local election officials with prosecution. The order also prohibits demands that officials remove voters from rolls, refuse ballots, or segregate ballots based on administration claims that certain voters are ineligible. The ruling came in a lawsuit filed by the Service Employees International Union and other groups.
Thompson wrote that the public has a “paramount interest in ensuring that election officials and workers are able to carry out their work in accordance with federal law and election procedure,” and that election day is only a couple of days away. She ordered the administration to notify recipients of prior letters that the demands and threats have been enjoined and to disclose any pending search warrants, grand jury subpoenas, or demands for election materials. The temporary order expires Nov. 16. The administration has appealed.
Why It Matters
A federal judge blocking efforts to keep suspected non-citizens from voting and shielding election workers from prosecution days before an election removes a check on potentially ineligible voting. The order treats demands to follow citizenship rules as intimidation rather than law enforcement. That approach undermines the principle that only citizens determine the outcome of American elections.
DOJ Uncovers Nearly $30 Million in Minnesota Benefits Fraud
The Department of Justice announced that it identified roughly $29.1 million in government benefits fraud in Minnesota between Sept. 30 and Oct. 30. During that period, the National Fraud Enforcement Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota charged, convicted, or sentenced 13 individuals for schemes that caused nearly $83 million in intended losses. The cases involved Minnesota’s Medicaid program, the Federal Child Nutrition Program, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
In one case, Shaakir Mohamud Ibrahim, 54, of Pelican Rapids faces wire fraud and money laundering charges for allegedly using false meal claims through Feeding Our Future to collect more than $1.1 million. In another case, Feisal Mohamed Elmi, 46, of New Brighton was charged with 11 counts related to an $8.2 million Medicaid fraud scheme. Acting Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter said, “Minnesota is the epicenter for fraud in America.” He added that the administration’s crackdown is working and that it has issued more than 1,000 subpoenas and 40 warrants.
Why It Matters
Large-scale theft from Medicaid, child nutrition, and food stamp programs in one state drains money meant for the disabled, the hungry, and the elderly. The sheer volume of charges in a single month shows how thoroughly these systems can be gamed when oversight is weak. Taxpayers fund the programs; they should not also fund the thieves.

Ohio Democrat Amy Acton Draws Scrutiny After Slurring Words at Toledo Rally
Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dr. Amy Acton appeared at a Thursday night rally in Toledo where video showed her slurring her words. “Ohhh, it’s so good. Good to be back here at UAW,” she said. “It’s about truth and justice I just wrote on the wor, words back here. That is. I’m honored to be here!” Social media users described her as slurring and stumbling. In another clip from the event, she froze mid-sentence and laughed as the audience called out, “Let it out!” She also mixed up a Jeep and a jet while mispronouncing Toledo.
Earlier in the campaign, at a September rally, Acton repeatedly shouted “You can’t buy Ohio!” in a harsh voice while criticizing her opponent’s spending. The episodes come against a 2019 Bexley Police report in which Acton’s daughter told officers that “her stepfather and her mother were fighting and that her mother had been ‘drinking and throwing things.’” The officer wrote that both had been drinking and that Acton pulled a mirror from the wall. The campaign said she had one drink, the medications were for migraines and high blood pressure, and she bumped into the mirror.

Why It Matters
When a candidate for governor appears on stage slurring words and laughing through sentences while social media and prior police reports raise questions about substance use, voters are entitled to notice. The pattern of erratic public moments makes it harder to dismiss the concerns as mere partisan noise.
Alaska’s Other Dan Sullivan Leaves Hometown as Election Probe Continues
Independent Senate candidate Daniel J. Sullivan left his hometown of Petersburg on Monday, two days before reporting that operatives linked to Democrat Mary Peltola’s campaign had recruited him to run against Republican incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK). A former student saw him board a flight to Anchorage. His whereabouts afterward were not known. Petersburg residents told reporters they had seen no campaign signs, mailers, or brochures. Local fisherman Andrew Worhatch said, “I don’t think it’s a serious candidacy. I haven’t seen a platform.”
An FBI agent visited a boat dealership Friday to question a $500 donor about whether he had been misled. Gov. Mike Dunleavy ordered a state investigation after alleging the candidate tried to use the senator’s middle initial on the ballot. The Justice Department has asked a federal court to bar certification of any result affected by voter confusion. Peltola called the allegations a smear and said, “I know I can beat Dan Sullivan. I do not need any help winning this race.” No one has been charged.
Why It Matters
When a candidate with the same name as the incumbent leaves town just before reporting that he was recruited by the opposing campaign, and federal and state investigators are examining whether voters were deliberately misled, the integrity of the ballot is no longer an abstract concern. Ranked-choice systems amplify the damage if confusion changes the outcome.
Omar Marriage Application to Alleged Brother Shows Crossed-Out Name Changes
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN)’s 2009 Minnesota marriage license application to Ahmed Elmi, the man accused of being her brother, shows her surname written as Omar, crossed out and changed to Elmi, then changed back to Omar, according to a certified copy from Hennepin County. The application is dated Feb. 12, 2009, the same day a Christian minister performed the ceremony. The couple checked “no” on the question asking whether they were related by blood or adoption.
The Justice Department is investigating whether Omar fraudulently obtained U.S. citizenship in 2000 by failing to use her true legal name and birthdate. A recent court filing referred to her as “Congresswoman Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.” Homeland Security Investigations agents raided her Washington, D.C., home on Oct. 12. A source familiar with the investigation said Omar is not her real name and that her birth surname is Elmi. Omar has dismissed the allegations as a racist conspiracy theory. When asked whether she married her brother, she replied, “Not to my knowledge.”

Why It Matters
When a sitting member of Congress has a marriage application showing multiple revisions to her surname to match the man she is accused of marrying, and federal agents are examining whether she used that marriage to obtain citizenship, the questions are no longer limited to campaign gossip. The possibility that immigration documents were falsified to secure a seat in the House directly challenges the integrity of the office.
Knoxville Social Worker Calls for Removal of Halloween Ghost Decorations
A Knoxville social worker, Elisabeth Spencer Pitts, publicly called on the city to take down white-sheet ghost decorations hanging from trees in downtown Market Square. The ghosts are part of the city’s official “Wicked Cool Halloween” display. Pitts argued that the figures resemble a “white supremacist lynching.” In a Facebook post she wrote, “Maybe I’m sensitive and possessed of a very flighty and prolific imagination, but this sh-t just ain’t copacetic in my humble opinion. ... JFC can we just NOT hang anthropomorphic figures in trees in a downtown southern city right now?”
Independent journalist Andy Ngo highlighted the posts and noted that the last documented American lynching occurred 45 years ago. A commenter named JeMiale McKinney responded, “As a black dude, literally nah fam. Last documented lynching in the country was 1981. Last in Tennessee was 1944. ... The ghosts are white. The wires aren’t wrapped around their neck. Stuff like this paints Black people as perpetual victims who need shielding from any vague thing.” The decorations remained in place as of Halloween morning.
Why It Matters
When a social worker demands that a city dismantle standard Halloween decorations because she imagines them as lynchings, the demand treats ordinary seasonal imagery as evidence of ongoing racial violence. The last documented lynching in the United States was decades ago. Treating every white sheet as a noose keeps racial grievance alive for no practical purpose.
ON THIS DAY IN 1921:
Anoka, Minnesota, held one of the nation's first planned, city-wide Halloween celebrations to prevent juvenile vandalism, earning it the self-proclaimed title of "Halloween Capital of the World."

Mélenchon Leads Paris Protest as Police Warn of Insurrectional Halloween
Far-left presidential candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon stood at the front of a large protest march in Paris on Saturday, as the crowd chanted “Mélenchon, president!” The 75-year-old leader of France Insoumise has risen to second place in polling to replace President Emmanuel Macron, trailing only Marine Le Pen. Police estimated between 100,000 and 150,000 demonstrators would join the Paris march.
Authorities deployed roughly 70,000 officers nationwide after intelligence assessments warned of a potential “insurrectional situation” involving ultra-left radicals and youths from suburban neighborhoods. Clashes broke out as protesters hurled stones and set fires while police fired tear gas. Mélenchon said he was supporting demands for better study conditions and lower living costs and called for peaceful demonstrations. Shopkeepers boarded up storefronts after earlier unrest produced more than $1.3 billion in damages. Demonstrations also occurred in other European countries.
Why It Matters
When a far-left candidate rides a wave of street violence and looting into second place in the presidential race, the unrest is no longer a sideshow. The coordination between radical groups and suburban youths, combined with the scale of damages already inflicted, shows how quickly social protest can turn into organized disorder that challenges the state’s ability to maintain order.
Poland’s Top Court Accuses Tusk Government of Coup as Riot Police Deploy
Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal has accused Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s government of staging a coup after it suspended Tribunal President Bogdan Święczkowski and Vice-President Bartłomiej Sochański. “All persons participating in these actions are committing the crime of a coup d’état,” the tribunal stated on social media. Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek has sought to strip the two officials of immunity so the tribunal can bring criminal charges.
President Karol Nawrocki, an ally of the previous Law and Justice government, cut short a trip to Senegal and returned to Warsaw, where he attempted to enter the tribunal building. Tusk said restoring the rule of law is the government’s duty after years of prior reforms. Riot police were deployed as protesters gathered outside. Three people were arrested. Ambassadors to China and Romania resigned in protest. The dispute stems from long-running questions over the tribunal’s legitimacy following earlier judicial appointments.
Why It Matters
When a government sends riot police to seize control of a constitutional court and the court itself declares a coup is underway, the rule of law has already left the building. The Warsaw standoff shows how quickly judicial disputes turn into physical power grabs once one side decides the other side’s appointments are illegitimate.
Russia’s Last Independent Newspaper Novaya Gazeta Shuts Down Under State Pressure
Novaya Gazeta, Russia’s last major independent newspaper, announced Friday that it is shutting down permanently. Editor-in-Chief Sergei Sokolov said, “We were killed. The newspaper is gone. The Russian authorities and Russian intelligence services forced the editorial staff to cease operations.” The paper will shut down its servers and leave its office on November 9, after 30 years.
Founded in 1993 with support from Mikhail Gorbachev’s Nobel Peace Prize money, the outlet was known for investigative reporting that frequently drew official scrutiny. Six of its reporters have been killed. Its print and online licenses were revoked after the start of the Ukraine war; it was labeled a foreign agent, and its Moscow office was raided before an eviction notice. Sokolov said staff collectively decided continued operations were impossible after losing the office and financial support. Russian nationalist milbloggers welcomed the closure, stating it should have happened sooner and accusing the paper of promoting anti-Russian narratives.
Why It Matters
When the last independent newspaper inside Russia is forced to shut its doors after years of raids, license revocations, and the killing of its reporters, the regime has finished the job of eliminating domestic scrutiny. The remaining information space is now occupied by outlets that treat criticism of the state as treason.
Two Chinese Nationals Sentenced for Recruiting US Military Sources
Two Chinese nationals, Liren “Ryan” Lai, 40, and Yuance Chen, 39, were each sentenced Friday to 30 months in prison and three years of supervised release. They had pleaded guilty to conspiring to act and acting as agents of the People’s Republic of China without notifying the U.S. Attorney General. The men operated under the direction of China’s Ministry of State Security.
Their activities included facilitating secret “dead drop” cash payments of at least $10,000 and roughly $20,000, gathering information about U.S. military personnel and installations, and assisting efforts to recruit potential intelligence assets from within the U.S. military. Chen photographed restricted areas of Naval Base Kitsap and boards at a Navy recruiting station in San Gabriel, California, that displayed recruits’ names and details. Assistant Attorney General for National Security John A. Eisenberg said the activities “were extensive and brazen.” The FBI arrested both men on June 27.
Why It Matters
China’s intelligence service directing agents on U.S. soil to photograph military bases, collect personal details on service members, and attempt recruitment is a direct effort to compromise American defenses. The use of dead-drop payments and targeting of Navy personnel shows the operation was systematic, not opportunistic. Allowing such activity unchecked would leave the armed forces exposed to foreign penetration.
