Senate Panel Votes To Hold Dr Anthony Fauci In Contempt
The Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee voted 8-5 along party lines Thursday to hold former National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress. Fauci invoked his Fifth Amendment rights more than 100 times during a July 29 hearing examining his role in the COVID-19 pandemic response and U.S.-funded gain-of-function research. Committee Chairman Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said the resolution authorizes referral directly to the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia for potential prosecution, a misdemeanor carrying up to one year in prison and a $1,000 fine. Democrats on the panel argued the move punishes a witness for exercising constitutional rights. Senate investigators also obtained a copy of Fauci’s pandemic-era cellphone from the Department of Health & Human Services.

Republican Governors Spencer Cox of Utah and Kevin Stitt of Oklahoma joined Democratic counterparts in a National Governors Association task force proposing that states issue workforce permits to migrant workers. The group outlined the idea in a joint Bloomberg interview as a way to address labor needs in agriculture, construction and hospitality. Cox credited the Trump administration with securing the border while arguing for state-level permits. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin told governors that broad immigration reform is not possible under the current system.
Editor’s Note: But for the fact that the Executive Branch of the federal government is the authority for immigration…Now, how much did this exercise cost the taxpayers?
