Census Bureau Proposes Dropping Illegal Aliens and Temporary Visa Holders From the 2030 Count
The Census Bureau posted a Federal Register proposal Wednesday to count only citizens and lawful permanent residents for the 2030 House apportionment. Illegal immigrants and aliens with less durable status than a green card would be left out for lacking a sufficient tie and allegiance. The draft also drops race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation questions, citing doubts about their meaning. Public comment runs for 30 days. Trump ordered a citizen-focused count last year after the Supreme Court blocked a citizenship question in his first term. The 14th Amendment still refers to persons. Blue states with large illegal populations would lose seats if the rule survives the court.

First Circuit Leaves Ban on USPS Mail Ballot Rule in Place Ahead of Midterms
The First Circuit on Thursday refused to lift Judge Indira Talwaniâs injunction blocking a Postal Service rule that implements Section 3 of Trumpâs Executive Order 14399. The rule would require states to pre-clear ballot envelopes and send voter lists to a federal portal. USPS could refuse noncompliant ballots. The three Biden-appointed judges said the administration failed to show the rule would not cause chaos and disenfranchisement and that it likely regulates the manner of congressional elections reserved to the states. They found no record of impending mail-ballot fraud. The Supreme Court is weighing the same stay. Midterm ballots are already going out.

Trump Pitches $5,000 Adult Dividend If Republicans Hold Congress
President Trump told the Republican midterm convention in Dallas that every adult U.S. citizen would get a $5,000 âTrump Dividendâ if the GOP keeps the House and Senate. He compared it to a company cash distribution and to last yearâs $1,776 military stipend. The money would have to be spent in the United States. About 270 million adults would put the tab near $1.3 trillion. He did not name a funding bill. Vice President J.D. Vance later said it would be a workersâ dividend, possibly from tariffs, and might skip the wealthy. Trump also said he would campaign in 35 states with close races.
Trump Plans $500 Rebate Checks for Unsubsidized Obamacare Enrollees in 30 States
President Trump said nearly 1 million Affordable Care Act enrollees who pay full price on the federal exchange will get $500 refunds from surplus user fees. Checks start in October, before the Nov. 3 midterms. The White House put the pot, left over from Biden-era collections, at about $500 million, which officials said sat unused. Eligibility covers 30 Healthcare.gov states, including Florida, Ohio, Texas, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Recipients who already get premium subsidies are out. Trump framed the cash as money that should go to people, not insurers, and tied it to his Great Healthcare Plan. Biden officials once floated the same surplus for free contraception and dropped it after GOP pushback.
West African Port Chief Runs Minnesota Group Homes From Liberia and Bills Medicaid Over $36M
Sekou Dukuly, managing director of Liberiaâs state ports, has been listed as the day-to-day director of Minnesota group homes while living in West Africa. Companies tied to him collected about $36 million in Medicaid over a decade. MPR News found 22 maltreatment probes, including resident deaths. State law does not require directors to live in Minnesota. All four Minnesota Republican House members wrote Gov. Tim Walz (D) on Tuesday. Payments to some homes have been suspended. Emmer said the scheme hurts taxpayers and the disabled residents the homes were supposed to serve. Walz earlier declined to comment.
Fetterman Video at GOP Convention Backs McCormick and Steel Work With Trump
US Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) appeared by video Wednesday at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas. Filmed on a roof overlooking a steel mill, he called himself a common-sense Democrat who stands with America and rejects âextremes and socialism.â He introduced Republican colleague US Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA) as a friend who gets the job done. Fetterman said he would work with McCormick and President Trump to defend the Steel Valley. McCormick asked the crowd how great Fetterman is. Fetterman later said he is a lifelong Democrat who still votes with his party and would remain the 51st vote if the Senate flips. He and McCormick run a joint fundraising committee. A Siena poll found 73% of Pennsylvania Republicans view Fetterman favorably.

AI Doom Warnings Land as Sanders Bill Seeks Superintelligence Ban
Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon quit this week and said OpenAI and Anthropic are racing to self-improving AI that could wipe out humanity by 2030. Alignment chief Evan Hubinger put extinction odds above 10 percent this decade. Hours later hedge-fund Democrat Paul Tudor Jones told the Wall Street Journal that Trump and Xi must jointly restrain the technology. The same week Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Greg Casar unveiled a bill to ban artificial superintelligence, freeze advanced work, and hit violators with a corporate death penalty and prison. Coxonâs first quote-tweets came from advocacy shops funded by an Anthropic investor. The stacked timing of the scare and the statute looks less like coincidence than a campaign to scare Congress into a leash.

Talarico Recants Six-Sexes Line and Rebrands as Border Security Democrat
Texas far-Left Democrat James Talarico told reporters he âmissed the markâ after five years of claiming science found six biological sexes. He now says there are two plus rare abnormalities and that Republicans would rather talk about that than $6 diesel. The same man who fought Texas bills to keep males out of girlsâ sports now says he would oppose them if safety or fairness is at risk. He would also back a national ban on youth gender surgeries after voting no on the state version. He called himself a border-security Democrat who wants a lock and a welcome mat, then a citizenship path after taxes and English. His opponent, Ken Paxton (R), labeled it a flip-flop.

FBI Arrests Skid Row Petition Boss Accused of Paying Homeless to Forge Voter Names
FBI agents arrested James Brass, 47, known as Lord, in Victorville before dawn Thursday after he left home at 4:45 a.m. Prosecutors say his firm, Pinnacle Brass, paid Skid Row residents a few dollars to sign ballot petitions in the names of real California voters pulled from a database. Circulators Courtney Price, 49, of Jacksonville, Florida, and Jateisha Herron, 33, of Boron, face conspiracy charges with him. Brass was paid about $41,600. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said the scheme undercuts voter confidence. OâKeefeâs video earlier showed lists of names and $2-to-$3 payouts. A prior Skid Row registration case ended in probation.
DOJ Says Berkeley Law Gave Black Applicants Nearly Six Times White Odds After SFFA
The Justice and Education Departments said Wednesday that Berkeley Law violated Title VI by discriminating against White and Asian applicants in 2024 and 2025 classes. Investigators found that Black applicants had 5.8 times the odds of comparable White applicants in 2025. Combined 2024-25 data showed half of admitted Black students scored below 95 percent of admitted White students on the LSAT, and 37 percent scored below 99 percent. The application asked for racial identity so students could be grouped by âprimary identity.â Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon said the school tried to dodge the Supreme Courtâs SFFA ruling. Berkeley refused some document requests. DOJ seeks a resolution or will sue.
Parents Ask Supreme Court to Restore Standing Against Washington Trans Shelter Law
Parents and International Partners for Ethical Care filed their Supreme Court merits brief seeking reversal of a Ninth Circuit ruling that they lack standing to challenge Washington SB 5599. The 2023 law lets shelters skip parental notice when a runaway seeks âprotected health care,â including gender-affirming treatments, and instead notify the state. Parents may get no location or condition. A child can stay for 90 days. Oral argument is set for Dec. 7. Sixteen states backed the petition. Sen. Marko Liias said the bill covers youth facing family âopposition and hostility.â Parents say they now walk on eggshells. The Ninth Circuit called the harm speculative.

IAEA Sees Construction at Iranâs Pickaxe Mountain Near Natanz
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said Thursday that remote imagery shows movement at Iranâs Pickaxe Mountain tunnel complex south of Natanz. Inspectors have never been inside. He told Bloomberg Television that the agency has no concrete information on what is happening there. CSIS said 2026 road activity at the site is the highest on record, with hardened portals and paved internal roads. Analysts said the site does not yet look ready for enrichment. Trump warned Iran not to âget cuteâ at Pickaxe and said the U.S. would hit hard. The IAEA board referred Iran to the U.N. Security Council for non-compliance, the first such step in two decades.
Iranian Strike Damages A-10 and F-15s at U.S. Base in Jordan
Overnight strikes on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan damaged U.S. aircraft, sources told CBS. One A-10 Thunderbolt lost a wing. About eight F-15s took light damage and returned to service. No U.S. deaths were reported. The IRGC claimed the attack. U.S. Patriots fired more than 30 interceptors. Jordan said it engaged 20 ballistic missiles, destroyed 18, and that two fell into empty ground. The barrage followed U.S. hits on five Iranian tankers in the Strait of Hormuz after Iran targeted a Navy ship. Tehran also claimed strikes on tankers and two destroyers. CENTCOM had not confirmed the aircraft damage.
Somaliland President Leaves Door Open to Israeli Military Presence
President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi told reporters in Washington that there is currently no Israeli security presence in Somaliland, but he would welcome one for deterrence. He said he needs partners, including Israel and the United States, plus technology and training for an army of about 25,000 and a 1,500-member coast guard. Formal talks have not begun. The comments came as Houthis seized Mocha and pressed toward Bab el-Mandeb. Israel recognized Somaliland in December 2025. Abdullahi also said he could send up to 2,000 troops to a Gaza stabilization force if asked. He denied talks on using Somaliland for operations against the Houthis.

Yemenâs Iran-aligned Houthis took the Red Sea port of Mocha on Thursday, four government military sources said. They were attacking the Hanish islands and pushing Saudi-backed forces south toward Dhubab, across from Perim Island at the mouth of the Bab el-Mandeb. Control of Dhubab and Perim would give them the Gate of Tears, the southern Red Sea chokepoint for Gulf oil heading to Suez. Iran has already squeezed Hormuz. Pakistan passed a Saudi warning to Tehran to restrain the Houthis. Iran said it does not control them. Two Iranian sources said Tehran last week told the Houthis to hit Saudi Arabia and sent IRGC officers. Saudi Arabia said Houthi attacks wounded 73. More than 20,000 people have been displaced in Taiz and Hodeidah.
Spainâs Spy Agency Flagged Ceuta Fence Assault Before July Surge
Declassified files released Wednesday show Spainâs National Intelligence Center warned officials on July 29 of social-media calls to storm the Ceuta fence and swim in at 8 p.m. the next day. Two groups had 180,000 followers. CNI sent the same alert to the Civil Guard and to Moroccan intelligence, noting Throne Day. More than 72,000 people then crossed July 30-31. A Defense report that day said Moroccan forces were passive. Prime Minister Pedro SĂĄnchez said the papers did not show the scale that followed. Protests have hit Spain. About 5,000 to 10,000 migrants remain in the exclave. NGOs said more than 140 died in the rush.
