AI Creates Never-Before-Seen Viruses In Dangerous Lab Experiment
Researchers at Stanford University and the Arc Institute used an AI model called Evo to design functional viruses never before seen in nature. The AI generated hundreds of genetic blueprints based on bacteriophages that infect bacteria. Scientists synthesized and tested nearly 300 of them in the lab, resulting in 16 viable viruses that successfully killed antibiotic-resistant E. coli strains. The synthetic viruses cannot infect humans, but experts warned the technology raises biosecurity concerns about potential misuse.

Democrat Establishment Launches Campaign Against Socialism After Primary Losses
Centrist Democrat group Third Way is launching a $15 million effort through 2028 to discredit democratic socialism and the Democratic Socialists of America. The move follows primary victories by Left-wing candidates including Abdul El-Sayed in Michiganâs Senate race. Third Way president Jonathan Cowan said the group is preparing for the next internal party conflict. The campaign will include opposition research, polling and outreach to Democrat leaders and activists.
Trump Signs Executive Order Targeting Birth Tourism After Supreme Court Ruling
President Donald Trump signed two executive orders on Thursday aimed at limiting birthright citizenship and banning birth tourism. The orders instruct agencies not to recognize citizenship for children born to certain noncitizen parents, including those involved in foreign terrorist groups or commercial arrangements for citizenship. A separate order directs the denial of visas to foreigners traveling to the United States specifically to give birth. The actions follow a June Supreme Court decision that struck down a broader earlier effort to restrict birthright citizenship.
Federal Government Has Identified 230 Billion In Fraud Since March
Vice President JD Vance said the Trump administration has identified $230 billion in fraud and prevented $56 billion in fraudulent payments since the Fraud Task Force was established in March. Vance spoke at a roundtable with Republican lawmakers and urged Congress to codify anti-fraud measures and improve data sharing between state and federal governments. Murkowski Will Vote No On Todd Blanche Nomination For Attorney General
Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska announced Friday she will vote against the nomination of acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. Murkowski cited concerns over the Justice Departmentâs handling of Epstein files, immunity protections for President Trump and his family, and a nearly $2 billion anti-weaponization fund. She said the country needs an attorney general who will check the administrationâs impulses but lacks confidence Blanche will do so. Sen. Susan Collins had previously announced her opposition as well.
Marsha Blackburn Wins Gop Primary For Tennessee Governor
U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn won the Republican primary for Tennessee governor on Thursday. Decision Desk HQ called the race shortly after polls closed with Blackburn receiving about 43 percent of the vote. She defeated U.S. Rep. John Rose, who took about 33 percent, and State Rep. Monty Fritts, who received about 24 percent. Blackburn is the odds-on favorite to win the November general election against Democrat Jerri Green in the heavily Republican state.

Pro Police Crowd Boos Mamdani Off Stage At NYPD Event
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was booed off stage Tuesday at the NYPDâs National Night Out Against Crime event in Staten Island. A crowd of about 3,500 pro-police residents chanted âget out of hereâ and ânobody wants you,â drowning out his remarks that lasted less than a minute. Mamdani smiled, waved, and left the stage as the jeers continued. Staten Island is the cityâs most conservative borough, and the only one Mamdani lost in the 2025 mayoral race.
Philly Abolish ICE Socialist Candidate Says Crossing Border Illegally Is Not A Crime
Chris Rabb, a Democratic Socialist candidate for Pennsylvaniaâs 3rd Congressional District, said in an interview that entering the country illegally is not a criminal act. Rabb rejected the term âillegalsâ and stated he does not accept the premise that unauthorized border crossings constitute crimes. He also said he wants to abolish ICE and dismantle what he called immigration concentration camps. Rabb has endorsements from Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (DS-NY), Rashida Tlaib (DS-MI) and Ilhan Omar (DS-MN).

Texas Childrenâs Hospital agreed to admit fraudulent practices in a settlement with whistleblower nurse Vanessa Sivadge over past sex-change procedures on minors. Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan signed the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement on Friday in the holy city of Mecca. The pact includes a mutual defense clause under which an attack on one member is regarded as an attack on all three.
