Senate Confirms 74 Trump Nominees Including Four US Attorneys
The Senate on Friday confirmed a package of 74 executive nominees by a 51-47 vote. The group included four U.S. attorneys, four U.S. marshals and the inspector general for the Department of Justice. Newly confirmed U.S. attorneys are Kenneth Sorenson for Hawaii, Timothy VerHey for Western Michigan, Sean Costello for Southern Alabama and Christopher Nassar for Northern Oklahoma. The Senate has now confirmed 136 of President Trumpâs law and order nominees in the current Congress.

Birth Tourism Ads Targeting Chinese Highlight US Immigration Gaps
Chinese companies are advertising birth tourism packages to capitalize on the U.S. Supreme Courtâs decision upholding birthright citizenship. Firms such as China Mifubaby Group and Kangbixing promote lodging, hospital partnerships and services in California for expectant mothers seeking U.S. citizenship for their children. An estimated 20,000 to 26,000 babies are born annually through birth tourism. The Justice Department has directed prosecutors to prioritize investigations into related fraud schemes following the ruling.
Illinois Voter Files HAVA Complaint Over 2024 Election Records
An Illinois voter and election judge filed a verified administrative complaint with the Illinois State Board of Elections under the Help America Vote Act on July 23. The complaint asks whether the state can produce a preserved, auditable statewide voter-registration record supporting certification of the 2024 general election. South Florida Company Sends Water-Making Systems To Puerto Rico Amid Drought
A South Florida company is shipping about 100 atmospheric water generation systems to Puerto Rico as the island begins water rationing due to severe drought and infrastructure problems. Altitude Water of Lauderdale Lakes is providing the units, which extract water from the air and can run on generators or solar power. Hundreds of thousands of residents in San Juan and surrounding areas face alternating 48-hour outages affecting more than 180,000 customer accounts. Officials said the drought has left reservoirs critically low while aging pipes lose a large share of produced water.

Judge Denies Southern Poverty Law Center Bid To Dismiss DOJ Indictment

The SPLC has pleaded not guilty and argued the case was politically motivated.
Prestigious College To Hide Freshmenâs First Semester Grades
The University of Michiganâs College of Literature, Science, and the Arts will implement a pilot program starting in fall 2027 that designates all first-semester grades for incoming freshmen as pass or no credit on external transcripts. Students will still receive letter grades and instructor feedback internally, but those grades will not appear on transcripts or count toward GPAs. Officials said the change aims to reduce stress, improve mental health and encourage academic exploration as students adjust to college. Internal records of actual grades will remain available for financial aid, athletics and other purposes.

University Of California Professors Demand Return Of SAT After Equity Experiment
More than 3,000 University of California faculty members have signed open letters calling for the reinstatement of SAT and ACT requirements for STEM admissions. The system dropped standardized tests in 2020 in the name of equity and later made admissions fully test-blind. Faculty report a sharp rise in incoming students lacking basic math skills, including a roughly 30-fold increase at UC San Diego in those testing below high school level. Professors say they are reteaching middle-school arithmetic while trying to deliver college coursework.

Iran Says Strait Of Hormuz Stays Closed Unless US Meets Demands
Iranâs Supreme National Security Council said the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States meets a list of conditions. Secretary Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr stated that Washington must end the naval blockade of Iranian ports, withdraw military forces from the region, pay reparations for war damage, lift sanctions and release frozen assets. Iran also demanded an end to threats against it and its allies. Talks with Oman on managing the waterway continue separately.

Pentagon To Invest 511 Million In Australian Rare Earth Mine
The Pentagon announced a $400 million conditional loan commitment to Sunrise Energy Metals to develop the worldâs first primary scandium mine in Fifield, New South Wales. Scandium is a critical mineral used in defense, aerospace and data centers, with China currently dominating global supply and processing. China restricted scandium exports for defense products in 2025, prompting the U.S. push for alternative sources. Sunrise has already agreed to supply 25 percent of its output to Lockheed Martin for five years.
More Than 178000 Immigrants Flee Or Are Deported From South Africa
More than 178,000 African immigrants have left South Africa in recent months amid a government crackdown on undocumented migration and anti-immigration protests. Authorities in home countries reported more than 115,000 returns to Zimbabwe and over 56,000 to Malawi, with smaller numbers to Nigeria, Ghana, Mozambique and Lesotho. American Evacuated From Antarctica In Rare Midwinter Medical Rescue
An Australian aviation crew from Skytraders evacuated an American patient from the U.S. McMurdo Station in Antarctica on July 31 in a rare midwinter operation. The Airbus A319 landed in near-total darkness and temperatures as low as minus 43 degrees Celsius after a five-and-a-half-hour flight from Hobart. The patient was transferred to the aircraft and flown to a hospital in Christchurch, New Zealand, before conditions worsened. Officials said the patient is recovering, with no further details on the medical condition released.
