FBI Disrupts 1,100 Planned Attacks on U.S. Soil, Director Tells Senate
The FBI stopped 1,100 people from carrying out terrorist attacks in the United States over the past 18 months, Director Kash Patel told the Senate Judiciary Committee. The bureau arrested 4,260 foreign terrorist organization affiliates, up 38 percent from the prior period. Criminal arrests rose 80 percent, violent-crime arrests 90 percent, and gang and enterprise arrests 30 percent. Agents helped locate more than 11,000 child victims, up 21 percent, and arrested more than 5,000 child predators and traffickers, up 13 percent. Disrupted cases included eight suspects targeting a White House UFC event, five people in a Michigan Halloween-weekend plot, and four December cases in California, Texas, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. The use of artificial intelligence in investigations rose from 2 cases to 140.

DHS Reviewing 300,000 Possible Noncitizen Voting Matches as Arrests Climb
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said Saturday more than 300,000 suspected cases of noncitizen voting are under review as state voter rolls are compared with immigration and citizenship records. He said the list grows every day. Separate from that review, he said 1,620 cases are in active investigation and 151 people have been arrested. Mullin said each illegal ballot cancels a citizenâs vote. The U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Texas this week charged seven noncitizens with illegal voting or false claims of citizenship, including a Mexican lawful permanent resident who cast a provisional ballot in November 2024. Mullin said federal agents would not staff polling places unless there is a threat.
D.C. Arch Now Slated to House Drones, Snipers & Ammunition
President Trump said Sunday he will convert a planned 250-foot triumphal arch at Memorial Circle, by Arlington Memorial Bridge, into a military complex at the militaryâs request. In a Truth Social post, he said the structure would store and rapidly deploy drones, station snipers on the roof and plaza, and hold large quantities of sniper ammunition. He said Washington is the only major capital without a triumphal arch and that this would be the greatest. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said Sept. 3 excavation was to start within two weeks. U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, an Obama appointee, ordered 48 hoursâ notice and final approvals before major excavation. Public Citizen and Vietnam veterans have sued, saying the arch would harm views toward Arlington National Cemetery. The National Capital Planning Commission has not scheduled final approval for its Oct. 1 meeting.
Leftist PAC Drops Unverified Boebert Sex Claims Days Before Colorado Ballots Mail
David Wheeler of American Muckrakers PAC filed a House Ethics complaint Thursday alleging US Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) had sexual relationships with three staffers and that about $200,000 went to former district director Clarice Navarro Ratzlaff in March 2025 after she threatened her own complaint. The PAC named Navarro Ratzlaff, district chief of staff Raven Finegan and former chief of staff Jeffrey Small. Wheeler offered no public evidence of who told him. Boebert said she is not a lesbian or bisexual and has never been sexually involved with any staff. Her office called it a politically motivated stunt to smear her and generate headlines. Navarro Ratzlaff said the claims about her are entirely false and defamatory. Wheeler has pursued Boebert for years and previously admitted sloppy, inaccurate PAC claims. Colorado ballots go out next week.

Grassley Presses Trump for Diesel Export Embargo as Iowa Hits $6.57
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) asked President Trump on Saturday to embargo diesel exports, comparing it to 1970s farm-product embargoes when food prices rose. He said Iowa diesel was $6.57 a gallon and that high prices are killing farmersâ income. He later said if the government can embargo chips to China, it can embargo diesel for farmers and truckers. Nationwide retail diesel has climbed above $6.50, according to AAA figures cited in market reports. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) said last week he is open to exploring a ban. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said restricting oil or fuel exports is unlikely to lower consumer prices and could invite retaliation. Analysts have warned a ban could weaken U.S. refining margins and tighten supplies abroad.
Police Search for Gunman After Shots Near Notre Dame Stadium During Michigan State Game
Gunfire was reported Saturday evening near Eddy Street Commons as No. 3 Notre Dame played Michigan State. St. Joseph County dispatch received the call about 7:37 p.m. Notre Dame issued a shelter-in-place order and told people inside the stadium to stay there. The university alert said the suspect was last seen on the south edge of campus and described a heavy-set Black male in blue shorts, a black shirt, and one white shoe. One person was taken to a hospital. Later, official accounts said a woman had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, and a South Bend officer was treated for a ricochet or shrapnel injury. Officials later said there was no continuing campus threat. The game finished with Notre Dame winning 27-10. The suspect had not been caught.

El-Sayed Backer Calls Gallows Remark Appropriate for Pro-Israel Democrats
Liano Sharon, a Michigan Democrat Party officer-at-large and signer of a Jewish letter backing Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, said âWe will see you at the gallowsâ carries a very appropriate sentiment after an activist used that line against US Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) in Washington. Sharon said he does not support the death penalty even for neo-Nazis. He compared Stevensâ legislative support for Israel to Reichstag lawmakers sentenced at Nuremberg and asked why U.S. legislators should be treated differently if an investigation found neo-Nazi atrocities. He named US Sens. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) and Gary Peters (D-MI), former US Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and US Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI). Asked about Kamala Harris, who is to campaign with El-Sayed, he said her conduct meets the definition of neo-Nazi. Rep. Hillary Scholten (D-MI) said threats invoking the gallows have no place in political discourse. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D) said politics should never include threats of violence against people who serve.

Childrenâs Star Ms. Rachel Calls Gaza Photographer Who Hid Hostage Beatings a âFriendâ
YouTube childrenâs host Rachel Accurso, known as Ms. Rachel, called Gazan photographer Motaz Azaiza a friend in a video that has resurfaced. Azaiza told the Taqarrab podcast that on Oct. 7, 2023, he filmed a crowd beating Israeli captives after an Al-Qassam Brigades vehicle passed and did not publish the videos because he did not want those shown identified. Accurso reaches more than 21 million subscribers with videos for toddlers and young children. She has donated to Palestinian causes and matched a $1 million pledge this month. Azaiza, a Time 100 honoree, also described journalists lowering cameras when Hamas was criticized and a WhatsApp group used to pressure holdouts. He criticized Hamas leaders in the same interview for bringing disaster on Gaza.

Dearborn Judge Questions Why Hero Needed a Gun After Stopping Mall Shooter
Judge Sam Salamey on Sept. 8 sentenced 19-year-old Martinez Long of Oak Park to two yearsâ probation for carrying a concealed pistol without a license. Long fatally shot Cameron Watkins on July 3 at Fairlane Town Center in Dearborn after Watkins killed Keonte Seaborn, wounded another person and kept firing. Prosecutors did not charge Long in Watkinsâ death, finding self-defense or defense of others. Michigan requires applicants to be 21 for a concealed pistol license. Salamey said Long had a valid legal defense but called bringing the gun poor judgment and asked what he needed a gun for protection in a mall in the first place. Probation includes no guns or ammunition, cognitive behavioral therapy, and court handgun-safety classes. Long had no prior record. The conviction can be expunged under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act if he finishes probation.

Princeton Faculty Gave 98 Percent of Political Dollars to Democrats, Zero to Republicans
Princetonians for Free Speech matched Federal Election Commission records for the 2023-2024 cycle to 818 Princeton faculty. Of 101 who made federal contributions, 99 leaned Democrat, two independent, and none Republican. Democrat recipients received $300,747. Independents received $1,270. Republicans received nothing. No department recorded a Republican donor. The School of Public and International Affairs had a higher donor rate than the campus average. The group said the pattern matches recent studies by Yale and Harvard faculty. Authors said contributions are not a complete measure of faculty views and that some Republican and independent professors exist. National polls typically show a more even split among voters.

DSA Eyes Chi Ossé for 2028 Schumer Primary if AOC Runs for President
Brooklyn City Council member Chi OssĂ© traveled to Buffalo and Kingston this week and talked like a statewide candidate. Democratic Socialists of America sources told reporters the group is discussing OssĂ© for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumerâs (D-NY) seat in 2028 if US Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (DS-NY) runs for president. OssĂ©, asked about challenging Schumer, said the era of wait-your-turn politics is over and that current Democrat leadership is not standing up to the plate. At a Kingston event, he backed government-run electricity. Assemblywoman Sarahana Shrestha (DS) said DSA is openly trying to convince Ocasio-Cortez to run for president. OssĂ© recently dropped a primary bid against House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) after a DSA chapter vote went against him.

U.S. Warns Mideast Conflict Could Escalate After Houthi Strike on Riyadh
President Trump cut short a Camp David stay and returned to the White House on Saturday as Yemenâs Houthis fired a ballistic missile toward Riyadh. Saudi authorities said air defenses intercepted the missile and reported no casualties. The coalition said further attempts on Yanbu, Taif, Baysh and Farasan were stopped. The Houthis claimed hits on sensitive sites in Riyadh and an Aramco facility in Yanbu. The State Department warned the security environment is complex, and the conflict could escalate rapidly. It urged Americans to reconsider travel through the region and prepare for flight cancellations and airspace closures. Embassies in Israel, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and other Gulf states issued alerts. Iranâs Mohsen Rezaei said Tehran had sent conditions through Qatar and was waiting for Trumpâs reply, including an end to fighting, unfrozen funds and an end to the naval blockade.
Ukraine Hits Moscow Refinery as Russia Reports Largest Drone Wave of 2026
Ukrainian drones struck the Gazprom Neft Moscow Oil Refinery overnight, about 16 miles from the Kremlin. The plant processes about 245,000 barrels a day and supplies fuel to the capital region. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said a key oil facility and a logistics site were hit and named several long-range systems used. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said 450 drones headed for the capital were shot down in what he called the most massive attack and that several reached the refinery grounds. Moscow Region Gov. Andrey Vorobyov reported deaths and injuries in the province. The strike came after President Trump asked Ukraine to stop hitting Russian energy infrastructure amid a global diesel squeeze. Heating oil cracks recently hit records. Russia was in the last day of parliamentary voting.

Germany Indicts Seven in Hamas Weapons-Depot Plot Aimed at Jews and Israelis
German federal prosecutors have indicted seven people they say belong to Hamas and helped the Qassam Brigades set up weapons depots in Europe. Prosecutors said that by July 2025 Hamas planned an attack in Germany or Austria on Israeli representatives, Jews or people with pro-Israel views near the second anniversary of Oct. 7. By arrest, the group had a functioning fully automatic rifle, 13 pistols and more than 700 rounds. An eighth suspect, Mohammed A., is being prosecuted separately and is accused of moving some weapons to Vienna. Officials said the cell was directed from Turkey. Named suspects include German, Danish, Bulgarian and Lebanon-born men. A 214-page indictment lists Israeli diplomats, Jewish community centers and pro-Israel events as targets. Arrests ran from October 2025 to May 2026.
AfD Leads Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania as Merz Calls CDU Result a Disaster
Exit polls Sunday put Alternative for Germany first in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania at about 37 to 38 percent, ahead of the Social Democrats at about 35.5 to 36.5 percent. Chancellor Friedrich Merzâs Christian Democratic Union sat near the 5 percent threshold, its worst showing in any state or federal vote since 1949. In Berlin, Die Linke led for the first time at about 24.5 to 26 percent, with the CDU second near 20 percent and the AfD third at about 13.5 to 16 percent. The vote came two weeks after the AfD took nearly 44 percent in Saxony-Anhalt. Merz called the results a disaster and said he would stay in office and press his reform agenda. Other parties have so far refused to govern with the AfD.
U.K. Officers Question Street Preacher After Complaint of Offense at Bible Reading
Video circulating Friday shows three female officers surrounding a Christian street preacher in a shopping precinct after a member of the public reported being offended. Officers cited Sections 4A and 5 of the Public Order Act 1986, which cover threatening or abusive words likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress, and the more serious charge requiring intent. âInsultingâ was removed from Section 5 in 2013. The preacher was questioned on hate speech and intimidation. Similar recent cases include Pastor Dia Moodley in Bristol, whose investigation was dropped, and Pastor Steve Maile in Watford, held for 12 hours. The Metropolitan Police later apologized after a volunteer officer told gospel singer Harmonie London she could not sing church songs on Oxford Street.
