Traditional Democrats Distancing From DSA Over Sept. 11 Remarks Before 25th Anniversary
Nearly 100,000 people signed a petition started by 9/11 widower Giovanni Galante asking Mayor Zohran Mamdani and other named left-wing figures, who have been furiously deleting old social media posts, to stay away from Friday’s Ground Zero ceremony. Families said they want none of those named at the 25th-year memorial. Mamdani posted in 2023 that “the death hasn’t stopped” and mourned “hundreds of thousands who died in the wars that followed.” Michigan Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed’s deleted 2021 tweet mourned 3,000 dead in New York, then “~1M lives” overseas “perpetuated ignorantly in the name of my country.” Streamer Hasan Piker, who has campaigned with El-Sayed, said in 2019, “America deserved 9/11.” Colorado primary winner Melat Kiros called the attacks “inevitable.” Rep. Tom Suozzi, whose Queens and Long Island district lost hundreds on Sept. 11, wrote that Democrats will not earn public confidence in the DSA platform. Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said anyone tied to Piker’s rhetoric should cut ties, and that the party would have already done so for any other group.

D.C. Circuit Blocks IRS From Sharing Taxpayer Addresses With ICE
A three-judge D.C. Circuit panel of Obama appointees on Tuesday upheld a lower-court injunction blocking the IRS from handing last-known addresses to ICE under an April 2025 data-sharing deal. ICE had asked for records on about 1.28 million people it said were under investigation for remaining after a final removal order. The IRS produced 47,289 matches, most through tax-ID matching rather than a full name-and-address check. The panel said the mass procedure failed to comply with Section 6103 confidentiality rules that limit disclosure to specific criminal investigations. Judge Cornelia Pillard dismissed the Justice Department’s complaint about sealed court notice as “weak sauce.”

Trump Extends National Emergency on Foreign Election Interference
President Trump on Aug. 31, 2026, signed a notice continuing for one year the national emergency first declared in Executive Order 13848 on Sept. 12, 2018, covering foreign interference in or undermining of public confidence in U.S. elections. The notice, filed quietly in the Federal Register on Sept. 2, cites ongoing risks from persons outside the United States, including unauthorized access to election and campaign infrastructure and covert propaganda and disinformation. It invokes the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and the National Emergencies Act and states that the 2018 emergency must remain in effect beyond Sept. 12, 2026. The action preserves existing authorities rather than creating a new midterm-specific emergency.
TSA Pilot Program Restores Gate Access for PreCheck Non-Flyers at 13 Airports
The Transportation Security Administration launched its Gateside by TSA PreCheck pilot this week at 13 U.S. airports, including Los Angeles International and San Diego International. Current and former PreCheck members plus Known Traveler Number holders can apply online one to three days ahead for a free one-day pass to clear security without a boarding pass. Visitors still face the same screening and ID rules as ticketed passengers and may be limited by daily caps or peak-hour pauses. The program revives pre-9/11 gate greetings and send-offs while airports retain the option to halt it at any time.
Laser Weapon Slashes Cartel Drone Flights 75 Percent Along Texas Border
U.S. military officials report a roughly 75 percent drop in drone probes over the Rio Grande Valley less than two weeks after first using a high-energy laser to destroy suspected cartel aircraft. The Army Multipurpose High Energy Laser system downed three drones on Aug. 25 and 26, and 11 more over 10 days. Troops have stopped about 300 cartel-linked drones since January, most previously by jamming them back across the river. The laser, an AeroVironment LOCUST variant mounted on vehicles and aimed with an Xbox controller, costs about $3 per shot and permanently disables the same aircraft, preventing it from returning to surveil U.S. troops and Border Patrol. Officials note that cartels may also be shifting routes and that weather can limit the beam, but the decline followed the laser’s operational debut. This week, the Army awarded AeroVironment a $465 million production contract for additional systems.
Trump Awards Medal of Freedom to 9/11 Hero Welles “The Man in the Red Bandana” Crowther
President Trump on Tuesday presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously to Welles Crowther, the 24-year-old Nyack volunteer firefighter and equities trader known as the man in the red bandana. Crowther’s mother, Alison, and sister, Paige, accepted the nation’s highest civilian honor at the Tunnel to Towers Steel Across America event on the Ellipse, days before the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. Crowther worked on the 104th floor of the South Tower and, after United Airlines Flight 175 struck the building, used a childhood red bandana to cover his face as he found a usable stairwell and made repeated trips from the 78th-floor sky lobby to lead trapped survivors to safety. Survivors later credited him with saving as many as 18 people. He was last seen with firefighters and died when the tower collapsed. Trump recounted the rescues and said the medal also honored other unnamed acts of heroism that day.

UCSB Professor Urges Marxism Crowd to Train With Weapons and Destroy Democrats
University of California, Santa Barbara history professor Butch Ware told a Chicago Marxism conference Sept. 4-5 that Democrats “must be destroyed” and that attendees should get ready for “war in the streets.” Ware said figures such as New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed exist only to contain radicalism. He told the crowd that some so-called revolutionaries have never been in a gunfight and that no one can call himself a revolutionary without talking about training with weapons. UCSB paid Ware $211,683 in 2024.

Illegal Immigrant Fleeing ICE Hits Tesla Carrying New Jersey Democrat Mayor’s Wife
An illegal immigrant fled a targeted ICE traffic stop in North Brunswick on Sept. 2, ran a red light on U.S. 130, and crashed into a Tesla driven by Dr. Penelope Cohen, wife of East Brunswick Democratic Mayor Brad Cohen. Cohen was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver fled on foot and was later arrested by ICE. Republicans say Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s Trust Directive and limits on local-ICE cooperation force riskier federal operations and put the public in harm’s way.
College Senate Shuts Out Republican Club in Unanimous Vote
The Associated Students of Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, voted 25-0 on March 8 to deny affiliation to the Whitman Republican Club after senators pressed members on the 2024 Republican platform and President Trump rather than on organizational rules. Climate Justice Coalition and Planned Parenthood Generation Action already hold official status and the resources that come with it. FIRE said the questioning showed viewpoint discrimination and wrote President Sarah Bolton on Aug. 31, urging a viewpoint-neutral review this fall. Without affiliation, the club is locked out of funding and campus support that other student groups receive.
LA Mayor Bass Declines House Hearing on $1 Billion Homelessness Funds
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (D) told a House DOGE subcommittee that she is not available on Sept. 15 to answer questions about more than $1 billion in federal homelessness funding routed through the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority. Counsel David Michaelson gave no reason for the conflict. The panel, led by Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) is examining alleged waste, fraud, and abuse and asked for records dating to 2020 by Sept. 14. Bass’s office said it is collecting those documents. GOP candidate Steve Hilton said taxpayers deserve to know why the problem persists despite billions spent.

Australian Pastor Says LGBT Activists Cut Power and Threatened Newborn After Address Leak
Australian pastor Andrew Sedra said four left-wing activists, two of them hooded, came to his Sydney home Thursday after his address was posted online. He said they cut the electricity, tried to break in, and threatened to kill the family while naming his newborn son. Security video posted to X captured shouts including “I will f***ing kill you” and “I’ll be at your doorstep every night.” Sedra and his wife Noleen lead Echo Church and speak against homosexuality. The family contacted the Australian police.

Italy-based Autistici/Inventati said Sunday it will discontinue services after the Trump administration listed it as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist in August. A European bank closed its account. The 25-year-old collective hosted about 16,000 mailboxes, 1,500 websites, 5,500 mailing lists, and 10,000 blogs, including NoBlogs, used to claim attacks and dox opponents. State Department said users posted propaganda from other designated terrorists. Parties must wind down their dealings by Sept. 25. Material support can result in up to 20 years in prison. Yemen Forces Detain Dozens of Houthis in Hudaydah as Coast Guard Intercepts Sanctioned Tanker
Yemeni government forces captured dozens of Houthi fighters during clashes in Al-Jarahi district of southern Al Hudaydah province, according to Information Ministry official Fayyad al-Numan. Activists posted images of the captives on social media. The Houthis offered no immediate comment. Separately, the Yemen Coast Guard intercepted the Comoros-flagged, U.S.-sanctioned product tanker Nereida after it unloaded cargo at the Houthi-held Ras Isa port without government approval or a UNVIM inspection. The vessel had switched off its AIS for parts of the voyage. Armed personnel aboard fired on a Coast Guard patrol in the Gulf of Aden before the tanker complied and was escorted to Aden for investigation.
