The Only Honest Way Forward Is Through Stand Alone Legislation
Now comes the news that Democrats have a brand new strategy to deflect from doing nothing for 3-plus years but promoting identity politics while purposely degrading the state of our Republic. They are going to blame Republicans for the crisis on the US southern border; the crisis they created by rolling back former President Trump’s border policies.
That should boost President Mantle-Floss’s historically dismal popularity ratings, right? The mainstream media will glom onto the false narrative that Biden Era Republicans are to blame for the 11 million illegals that have entered the country since Biden took office because, well, the GOP refused to vote for a “border security” bill choke full of funding meant for things completely unrelated to the border and that would have expanded presidential authority to rule unilaterally on immigration issues.
This is how the disingenuous reprobates in Washington, DC, gaslight and manipulate the American people, and these degenerates exist on both sides of the aisle, it’s just being served up to the electorate this time by the Democrat elected class, media operatives, and narratives creators.
The Truth, The Whole Truth & Nothing But The Truth
Of course, the truth of the matter is this, and only the mentally challenged would attempt to argue against it. On the very day that Joe Biden was inaugurated he reversed every one of Donald Trump’s border policies, creating a wide-open and lawless southern US border. Where Trump had created the most secure border policies the United States had seen in generations, Biden set fire to all of it.
Many who have been watching the “immigration” issue over the years understand two things:
Democrats insist on marrying the two very separate issues of border security and immigration together
Ideologically disingenuous Democrats (Marxist-influenced zealots all) have been employing the Cloward-Piven Strategy to overwhelm the border and the immigration system in an attempt to manipulate the system to create one-party rule in the United States
The only reason Democrats are getting away with attempting this (a move that can only really be seen as a coup against the American citizen), is by combining issues. We are seeing that occur with the border/immigration issue threefold: by narrative, through politics, and by legislation.
The Cure
The one thing that can derail the most damaging aspect of this disingenuous and demonic manipulation of the American people is if there is a fundamental change to the rules in both the House and the Senate. That change is to establish stand-alone legislation for every bill that is to be voted on in either chamber.
Of course, that can only be established one of two ways: 1) a Senate Majority Leader of the Speaker of the House can preside over a change to the rules of the chamber as mandated in the US Constitution (Article I, Section 5); or, 2) by constitutional amendment.
So, when the Republican apparatus continually achieves slim margins of victory in Congress or – as is the case under Ronna McDaniel – fails to achieve a majority in one chamber or the other, the road to the common sense relief the American people would experience in the establishment of stand-alone legislation takes the harder road of requiring a constitutional amendment.
But the benefits of stand-alone legislation are well worth any effort required to achieve that goal.
As I wrote in my book, Nullification: The Case for Decentralizing the Federal Government:
“Stand-alone legislation refers to a legislative approach that focuses on addressing specific issues or concerns, as opposed to omnibus bills that encompass a wide range of unrelated provisions. The legislative action also mandates the exclusion of any unrelated amendments to the process which almost always facilitate gratuitous pork barrel spending and special interest earmarks.
“The legislative process plays a crucial role in shaping the policies and regulations that govern the United States. However, the sheer complexity and scope of contemporary governance often result in lengthy, convoluted, and non-consumable bills that address multiple unrelated issues simultaneously. This approach, commonly found in “omnibus” bills, can hinder transparency, accountability, and effective decision-making.
“In contrast, stand-alone legislation offers a more focused and targeted approach, ensuring that specific concerns are addressed in a transparent, singular, and accountable manner.
“Stand-alone legislation, also known as ‘single-issue legislation’ or ‘single-subject legislation’, aims to avoid the inclusion of unrelated provisions (read: pork and earmarks), promoting clarity and coherence in lawmaking. Stand-alone legislation can be enacted at various levels of government, including federal, state, or local levels, and can cover a wide range of subjects, such as individual budgets, entitlements, healthcare, environmental protection, or civil rights.
“One of the primary benefits of stand-alone legislation is the improved transparency and accountability it brings to the legislative process. By focusing on specific issues, stand-alone legislation allows legislators, experts, and the public to more thoroughly scrutinize and better understand the proposed laws. This increased visibility facilitates robust debates, informed decision-making, and a higher level of legislative oversight.
“Moreover, stand-alone legislation simplifies the task of tracking the progress and impact of specific laws, making it easier for citizens to hold their representatives accountable as each is on record for their singular vote on any specific subject. This eliminates the tired old and often-used excuse by elected officials that they voted for or couldn’t vote for a piece of legislation because of an amendment to the bill. It also eliminates the ability of disingenuous elected officials to add amendments they know would damage or destroy any specific piece of legislation.
“Unlike omnibus bills, which often contain unrelated provisions, stand-alone bills are less likely to be encumbered by unrelated debates or false-hearted political maneuvers. This streamlined process also reduces the likelihood of political horse-trading, where unrelated provisions are added to secure votes or to promote specific interests and/or support for other pieces of legislation, thus enhancing the overall integrity of the legislative process.
“Because the implementation and enforcement of legislation can be challenging when bills encompass an overabundance of unrelated provisions, stand-alone legislation serves to simplify the implementation process, as the focus remains on a single issue or topic. Government agencies responsible for enforcing the law can, therefore, allocate their resources more efficiently, resulting in streamlined procedures and improved compliance rates.
“Furthermore, stand-alone legislation facilitates the identification of potential gaps or shortcomings in the law, allowing for timely re-writes or adjustments to enhance effectiveness.
“The focused nature of these bills also allows citizens, interest groups, and stakeholders to engage more meaningfully with specific issues that directly affect them. Public hearings, consultations, and open debates centered around the targeted issues in stand-alone bills encourage the active involvement of diverse perspectives, ensuring a more representative decision-making process. Consequently, stand-alone legislation goes to great lengths to promote public trust and legitimacy in governance.
“When legislation addresses a single issue, it is easier for the public to comprehend and research the issue, as well as to engage with the proposed laws. Because stand-alone bills do not require an in-depth understanding of multiple complex topics, the entirety of the legislative process can be more accessible to citizens. This increased clarity enables citizens to become more aware of legislative developments and encourages them to actively participate in governmental processes. As a result, stand-alone legislation strengthens civic awareness and fosters a more informed and engaged citizenry.
“One potential challenge associated with stand-alone legislation comes to us in the possibility of fragmented laws and regulations. Policymakers must carefully consider the potential impacts and broader implications when crafting stand-alone legislation to ensure comprehensive and harmonious governance. This lends itself to the argument that a higher intellectual level is appropriate for serving in public offices that are charged with crafting legislation.
“Further, while stand-alone legislation is not immune to the influence of special interest groups and lobbying efforts, the targeted approach to the issue allows for the identification of individuals and groups who abuse the access lobbying affords deep-pocketed special interests. While focusing on a single issue may attract more attention from vested interests, leading to attempts to shape legislation to serve particular agendas, it is easier to identify, isolate, and then take action against bad actors who don’t have the best public interests at heart.
“That said, policymakers and lawmakers must remain vigilant, transparent, and accountable to minimize the potential for undue influence and ensure that stand-alone legislation truly represents the interests and well-being of the broader population.
“Because stand-alone legislation offers an over-abundance of benefits compared to its vulnerabilities, it serves as an excellent tool in providing fidelity to the constitutional limitations placed on the federal government.”
The Effects
So, as you now understand, today’s Democrats would never be able to manipulate the citizenry like they are doing today on the issues of border security and immigration because they would necessarily have to address them separately.
As to the election tactic lie they are foisting on the people – that the GOP is responsible for the chaos at the southern border, stand-alone legislation would have divorced the funding for Ukraine, Israel, and Gaza and forced all aspects of immigration reform in the bill to be addressed separately. In that state, the border security bill would have passed with full compliments from both sides of the aisle.
Then, Democrats wouldn’t have allowed a bill on the sole subject of border security to the floor for a vote, given how they are using the invasion at the southern border as a transformative event.
If we are to tame the political parties and drain the cesspool they have created in the Legislative Branch, stand-alone legislation must be established. Holding the “Swamp Creatures” accountable for their votes; and exposing their fidelity to lobbyists over their constituents, is paramount in recapturing government over politics.
