The Hypocrisy of the Left's ‘Sanctuary Lie’
Vice President Kamala Harris’ insistence that the southern border of the United States is secure is a statement fully encamped in the realm of the absurd. And now that some of the more traditionally far-Left bastions are experiencing the many negative effects of illegal immigration – courtesy of some brave governors, the hypocrisy of their “sanctuary lie” is laid bare for all to see.
The question that must be asked – in tandem with and in addition to the immigration subject, and a point that needs to be openly, honestly, and truthfully discussed prior to the 2022 Midterm and 2024 General elections is this. Why are we gullible enough to entertain the insincere and deceitful virtue signaling of the political and ideological Left?
The Left’s Disingenuous Sanctuary
The caustic Left’s elitist playground, Martha’s Vineyard, declared a “humanitarian crisis” when Florida’s governor Ron DeSantis called their bluff on being a “sanctuary city” by relocating fifty – just fifty – illegal immigrants to that location. By contrast, the city of Eagle Pass, Texas – a border town of 28,130 people, saw 153,271 illegal immigrants in fiscal year 2021, which began in October of that year.
Martha’s Vineyard, which audaciously proclaims itself a “sanctuary city,” almost immediately rejected the 50 illegal immigrants who arrived last Wednesday by making arrangements to have them relocated to Joint Base Cape Cod, after Massachusetts Governor Baker activated 125 members of that state’s National Guard to help manage the “crisis.”
Writing at TheFederalist.com, Tristan Justice writes:
“Lisa Belcastro, a local resident...said Thursday the migrants would have to move on because the wealthy island was full.
“‘We certainly don’t have housing, we’re in a housing crisis as we are on this island,’ Belcastro said. ‘We don’t have housing for 50 more people.’”
Justice goes on to say that contrary to what Belcastro stated, there were over a dozen high-dollar vacation homes available to house the illegal immigrant arrivals to the majority-white, elitist, and Progressive-voting island.
In New York City, another location that dog-whistles its sanctuary status, Mayor Eric Adams protested to the arrival of illegal immigrants thusly:
“This is a real burden on New Yorkers...We already have an overburdened shelter system. So now we’re talking about food, clothing, school. This is going to impact our schools because we do not turn away individuals because they are undocumented...Translation services. There is just a whole host of things that this is going to produce. We need help.”
And while Adams attempted to place partial blame on Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis and Arizona’s Governor Doug Ducey, as of July of this year the only governmental entity sending illegal immigrants to New Your City was the federal government under the Biden administration.
In the nation’s capital, Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser called the arrival of illegal immigrants in her sanctuary city a “crisis that is certainly not of our making.” She took her obligatory digs at Governors Ducey and Texas’ Greg Abbott before taking a shot at the Biden administration saying the Biden administration’s response “has been lacking in some respects.”
And in Chicago, another self-declared sanctuary city and the genesis epicenter of today’s contemporary Progressive (read: fascist) movement, ultra-Left mayor Lori Lightfoot (who has allowed gangs to rule the streets) displayed the unbridled hypocrisy of her political party in immediately relocating arriving illegal immigrants out of Cook County and into the predominantly conservative collar counties.
After railing against Governor Abbott about not coordinating the relocation of illegal immigrants to Chicago, Lightfoot clandestinely sent a bus load of newly arrived illegal immigrants to neighboring DuPage County without notice.
Burr Ridge, Illinois, Mayor Gary Grasso – the destination for Lightfoot’s exportation of Illegal immigrants, called Lightfoot on her bald-faced hypocrisy saying:
“We’re more than happy for people to find freedom, it is hypocrisy by the mayor of Chicago to complain about the governor of Texas – I do agree with what he’s doing. The city of Chicago says it’s going to be a sanctuary city, which I oppose, but there must be vacant hotel rooms in Chicago. This is hundreds of people in a city of millions. Why are they sending them out to the Republican suburbs? You have to wonder.”
In each of these instances it must be asked: Where is the “sanctuary”?
What Is The Worth Of A Sanctuary Designation?
In their instantaneously negative reaction to the influx of illegal immigrants to their cobalt blue cities, we see that their promises to exist as locations of safe haven for illegal immigrants are nothing more than virtue signaling designed to deceive rank-and-file Democrats and the Progressive movement’s brainwashed useful idiots out of their votes on Election Day. They have demonstrated they have no intention of honoring their commitments to execute measures needed to satisfy their sanctuary statuses.
So, what is the worth of the Democrat politicians’ declaration of sanctuary status for their locations when the moment the rubber hits the road they recoil in horror; aghast that they may just have to actually welcome illegal immigrants into their immediate surroundings? In Martha’s Vineyard – playground to the Obama’s and the other caustically fascist elite, the immediate reaction was to remove the “riff-raff” as quickly as possible. They can’t have the unwashed masses in their version of The Hunger Games’ Capitol City.
But the larger question going into the Midterm and General Elections is this. If the in-power Progressives are more than willing to openly, defiantly, and flippantly break their promises to the nation on immigration – which is arguably a matter of national security given the many embedded elements among those entering the country illegally, on what other issues are they deceiving the American people? The economy? Energy? National security? Their fidelity to the Bill of Rights and the US Constitution?
If Democrats are willing to lie about one of the premiere planks in their political platform, how are they to be trusted to make the hard choices and to do what must be done as the leaders of China, Russia, Iran and North Korea meet and break bread?
How are we to ever take the current power-brokers of the Democrat Party at their word ever again?
In the Midterms and the 2024 General Election, only an imbecile would trust a Democrat.
