In the wake of the Democrats’ recent bait-and-switch/primary voter disenfranchisement maneuver, Republicans are left grappling with the implications of Kamala Harris's sudden emergence as the Democrat presidential nominee and the need to retool its election strategy with nary a moment to lose. In a nutshell, the next 90 days must be about records, not personalities, gender, or race.
If you believe the polling, the Trump campaign is now in toss-up territory. It will be scrambling to contend with an installed candidate who is strategically dodging the press to protect her level of vacuousness and who appears well-rested and unscathed (probably from having done, literally, nothing the last three-plus years and having avoided the ordeal of a primary).
Her unexpected (but apparently planned) ascent has raised a serious question: What are Republicans and the Trump/Vance campaign going to do about it?
The Abandoned Primary Process
The presidential primary process is a critical component of American politics, serving as a politically mine-filled vetting process for candidates seeking the approval of their own parties. Candidates are forced to pander to their base and often reveal their ideologically pure selves during this time, saying things that would likely hurt them in a General Election.
In contrast, the General Election sees candidates attempting to present themselves as more moderate, even if their true ideological leanings lie to the extreme. Such is the case with Kamala Harris.
By avoiding a primary, Harris has avoided revealing her true self, her true hardcore San Francisco Leftist self, to a naive and ill-informed electorate. In fact, there is ample evidence to suggest that Harris is extremely radical and would govern as such.
How Left Is Far-Left?
Throughout her “political career” (if sleeping your way into politics can be called a career), she has adopted virtually every tenet of neo-Marxist woke maximalism, from gender ideology to seriously discussing defunding the police. She has called for a reexamination of ICE and its role, advocating for dismantling the agency. She has endorsed Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Green New Deal – a proposal that would effectively dismantle the US economy under the guise of pseudo-scientific climate fundamentalism.
Furthermore, she has expressed extreme hostility towards American energy – including her opposition to fracking, supports Joe Biden's disastrous, society-crushing policies that encourage hormone treatments and gender surgeries for vulnerable minors, as well as the flinging open of women's jail cells to biologically male offenders.
She also echoed Biden’s praise for the disastrous withdrawal of US military forces from Afghanistan, alluding to the idea that hers was a critical opinion in Joe Biden’s decision to execute the withdrawal prematurely, a withdrawal that saw US military personnel slaughtered, billions in US weaponry abandoned to the Taliban, and tens of thousands of Afghans betrayed by the United States.
Harris's tenure as vice president has been characterized by her failure to address the immigration crisis (her crowning non-achievement), even when it was made her unique responsibility. She has displayed no interest in securing the southern border and has, instead, advocated for "equitable treatment" of those who have broken the law to be here, which, to the hard-Left, means providing taxpayer-funded healthcare and living expenses even though they shouldn’t be here by law.
In June of 2020 – in the aftermath of the George Floyd riots, Harris urged her supporters to post bail for Black Lives Matter rioters who had wreaked havoc on American cities. She even tweeted a payment link to the Minnesota Freedom Fund just four days after rioters burned a Minneapolis police precinct to the ground.
On The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (a late-night shill for the far-Left), she voiced her support for the BLM protesters, stating that they would not – and should not – stop until they achieved their goals.
Each of these positions is out of step with the moderates in her party and the vast majority of the American people. Had these positions come out in a primary election, they would have been not only damaging but also effectively disqualifying. So, it is a legitimate and provable designation that Harris was ranked the "most liberal" member of the Senate by the government transparency organization GovTrack, which – shock of shocks – recently deleted the page bearing the dubious distinction.
Re-Imagining Kamala As Not A San Francisco Leftist
Now, as a candidate in the 2024 General Election, Harris claims she never wanted to ban fracking and is scrambling to redefine each of her extreme positions to appear more moderate before the election. Expect her to reverse course on all of her far-Left positions in the coming weeks.
Had Harris been forced to restate these positions in a primary election, the current disavowals would seem phony to the point of ridiculous. She would be castigated as the liar and fraud she is. Instead, having avoided a primary (with the help of the corrupt DNC), Harris can now attempt to rewrite history in an effort to sell herself as a moderate to the public, a public that has no time to unpack whether she was or wasn't the official "border czar."
The contest comes down to this: Will Republicans and the Trump/Vance campaign let her get away with it? Can they put Harris through the equivalent of a primary before the first mail-in votes are sent? Or will the GOP whine about the unfairness of it all and blind itself to a better strategy going forward?
Republicans, so far, are presenting as foolish enough to attack Harris as a “DEI hire” and will likely be shocked by the stampede of White suburban women who will defend her. For one thing, calling Harris a DEI hire makes the unforced error of mistaking the ideology for its beneficiaries. The system of DEI is racist and unethical and must be dismantled. But the beneficiaries simply took advantage of the system being applied to attain – or, in Harris’s case, sleep her way into – these jobs. White suburban women will end up being sympathetic to Harris even though her unearned ascent should piss them off. The DEI hire thing is a non-starter.
As Abigail Schrier wrote in The Free Press:
“Consider that we all regard it as immoral for Major League Baseball to have once excluded Black players. The system was rotten, but the players in it – Ruth, Williams, DiMaggio – don’t deserve our contempt. Attack the system, not the players…
“The question Republicans ought to confront before leveling any attack is: ‘Will this energize my supporters more or hers?’ For nearly every ad hominem salvo currently flung at Harris, the answer is: hers.”
Time To Message To A Meaningful Demographic
The most troublesome demographic for the Trump/Vance campaign – and the GOP in general, is the White suburban women demographic, who the Pew Research Center pegs at leaning 53% towards Democrats; the younger the data set, the more to the Left.
Households with Mothers – from both political parties – have indicated they have hit a tolerance wall with inflation, with gender ideology in the schools, and with criminals on the streets. Many Mothers who are registered Democrats feel betrayed by the party that took its marching orders from the opportunistic Marxist teachers’ unions during COVID, which kept their kids out of school for years.
As Schrier pointed out, Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers and one of the most divisive personalities on the public stage, has endorsed Harris saying, "She has a record of fighting for us," although it is hard to find a single instance where a Harris decision did anything for teachers or education. Harris, in turn, praised Weingarten as "an incredible friend and adviser to the president and me," again, without providing any substantiation to that claim less affecting voter turnout. That ought to be enough reason for Mothers – both suburban and not – to at least stay home from the polls in the General Election
Harris has never stopped being an extremist San Francisco politician. She has always championed the same destructive policies that turned the once thriving city of San Francisco – and, for that matter, the once destination-desirable state of California – into a cesspool of dirt, crime, poverty, and homelessness. That the media will attempt to obfuscate that fact – those facts – should be irrelevant.
Republicans would be wise to remind the voters of that and ask residents of Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Ohio that a Harris administration would see their states transformed – or “reimagined” – to become California. A Harris presidency will most certainly inflict that kind of damage on the whole of the country because it’s what her actions have proven her agenda achieves.
Conservative and Liberal families, individuals, and corporations can’t flee Harris's home state fast enough, the state where, as US Senator and Attorney General, her policies were implemented. Why? Because taxes are unbearable, tens of millions of migrants have effectively overrun the education and healthcare systems pushing American citizens to the side, and the government has effectively ended any semblance of freedom of speech and choice for its people. California is a Marxist mecca of failure, and everyone can see it. This is the result of the policies embraced and championed by Kamala Harris.
‘It’s The Record(s), Stupid’
The vast majority of American families prefer Republican policies. Poll after poll proves this to be true. It's the messengers who are often the problem. And the GOP has traditionally sucked at messaging. But when you strip the names away from the policies, when you focus on the policies instead of the personalities, the overwhelming majority of people prefer the policies implemented and executed during the Trump administration over those ineptly and ideologically instituted by the Biden/Harris administration. It’s just a fact.
In juxtaposing each and every category between the Trump years and the Biden/Harris years – whether it’s the economy, national security, world peace, wealth generation, home ownership, business start-ups, you name it – an overwhelming number of people prefer the policies and the state of the nation during the Trump years. That’s because Trump's policies were – and continue to be – steeped in common sense, not political ideology.
So, with just 90 days until the General Election – and shorter if you consider early voting, the GOP and Trump campaign cannot waste time with name-calling and arguing whether Harris is Black, Indian, Jamaican, or Martian. It’s imperative for the focus to be on Harris's radical positions, her failures as vice president, and her inability to address the pressing issues facing our nation and the world.
Only by making it about “the record(s), stupid” can the GOP both expose the Democrats' bait-and-switch maneuver and that Kamala Harris is not the moderate she and her sycophantic media claim her to be and introduce them to the fact that everyone – that is everyone but the Marxists who want to transform our country to a democratic socialist state – was better off under Trump’s policies.
We can right the wrongs of the last three-plus years, but we must wake people up to the truth: They have been duped into believing the Presidential Election is a junior high school personality/popularity contest. It is not. It is a three-tiered chess game that will determine whether or not our Republic survives. Your vote and the sanctity and integrity of the ballot box will determine our Republic’s future.
The Dems won't let her debate, it would be as fatal for her as it was Joe. They'll just Hollywood produce her ads and keep her carefully well scripted until Nov5.
I thought Sept. 10 debate was between Trump & Brandon, when did Harris become Bidon? Is the D Follies over in Chicago?
