As we progress into the thick of the silly season we will hear a lot more about election integrity, election interference, and voter fraud, and we’ll we should. Although some states moved to reinforce voter registration procedures and laws overseeing the casting of ballots after the 2020 General Election, the purity of our voting system is far from acceptable and, in some ways, is being directly threatened.
During the 2020 General Election, there were several specific problem states when it came to reported voter fraud and electioneering: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Peer-reviewed research from the Social Science Research Network (SSRN) found evidence of around 255,000 excess votes (and possibly as many as 368,000) for Joe Biden in six swing states. Biden only carried these states – Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin – by a combined total of 313,253 votes. Excluding Michigan, the gap was 159,065.
That makes the recent announcement by Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, a former staffer at the far-Left Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), all the more troubling.
The Creation Of A Cabal
Benson, you will recall, was embroiled in litigation asserting that she violated the Michigan constitution and state election law by allowing politically partisan special interest groups with declared political agendas to selectively and privately fund how election authorities in predominantly Democrat precincts conduct elections.
Recently, Benson announced an initiative that would bring together the secretaries of state from six battleground states – Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin (sound familiar?) – to fight what she termed a “common adversary”. On its face, this Executive Branch coordination appears to not only violate the US Constitution but also the constitutions of the 5 other states involved. It also stinks of political election interference.
Her announcement takes on the airs of righteousness, but her intent is a blatant usurpation of election authority as plainly and unmistakably laid out in the US Constitution.
Article I, Section 4 states, in part:
“The times, places, and manner of holding elections for senators and representatives, shall be prescribed in each state by the Legislature thereof…”
This authority has been, by law, expanded to include presidential elections, broadening the authority to all federal elections.
Benson, a partisan Democrat, is not a member of Michigan’s Legislative Branch. She is an elected member of Michigan’s Executive Branch, a division of that state’s government not empowered to create, alter, or interpret election law. The same can be said for the other five secretaries of state:
Adam Fuentes (D), Arizona
Brad Raffensperger (R), Georgia
Cisco Aguilar (D), Nevada
Al Schmidt (R), Pennsylvania
Sarah Godlewski (D), Wisconsin
In her interview with the far-Left MeidasTouch.com, Benson clearly states that she and her gang of five intend to be proactive:
“We're all very clear-eyed about what we’re up against because the battle over the future of our democracy isn’t going to be in the post-election process, it starts now with how various court battles are playing out…As we talk to each other we can develop common strategies and be much more powerful and united as a team…”
The Cabal Cancer Spreads
To add more of a heavy hand in Pennsylvania, Governor Josh Shapiro (D), announced he has formed the “Pennsylvania Election Threats Task Force” which will partner with state and federal agencies, including the US Department of Homeland Security and the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) to “coordinate plans to mitigate threats to the election process, protect voters from intimidation, and provide voters with accurate, trusted election information, targeting speech it deems “misinformation.”
State officials declared:
“The Election Threats Task Force will ensure all levels of government are working together to combat misinformation, lies, and baseless conspiracy theories…[We] will continue to work closely with the United States Department of Homeland Security and its Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) [to maintain] open lines of communication and share intelligence among the included government agencies.”
Of course, the task force didn’t elaborate on the definition of “misinformation” or the process by which they would determine something qualifies as misinformation. It also wasn’t clear what “intelligence” would be shared and/or how the task force or their cooperating partners would come by that intelligence.
The Framers intended for the American people to have – as absolute – free and fair elections. They vested the power of creating election law with the legislatures of each state exclusively. Yet in many states, the legislatures – lazy, opportunistic, and rarely forward-thinking assemblies that they are – legislated the administration of elections to the state Executive Branches in the offices of secretaries of state, who then vested the mechanics of the election process to commissions and departments created to fulfill the duties of the abdicating legislatures.
This is where the politics of the matter rears its monstrous head.
Free & Fair Election…
Free and fair elections require:
Universal suffrage for all eligible men and women to vote
Freedom to register as a voter or run for public office
Freedom of speech for candidates and political parties
Numerous opportunities for the electorate to receive objective information from a free press
Freedom to assemble for political rallies and campaigns
A prohibition on electioneering and election interference
An impartial or balanced system of conducting elections and verifying election results
Accessible polling places, private voting space, secure ballot boxes, and transparent ballot counting.
Secret ballots
Legal prohibitions against election fraud (enforceable laws must exist to prevent vote tampering, i.e. double counting, ghost voting)
Codified recount and contestation procedures mechanisms and processes to review election processes to establish, without question, the proper execution of an election
Yet, when we examine the many cases of impropriety that occurred in the 2020 General Election (and contemporary General Elections prior) we see that many of these requirements were altered, manipulated, or simply dispensed with under the guise of ballot access during the COVID pandemic. Many of these requirements are still absent today.
In many cases, states that attempted to restore their election laws to a state of fealty to these requirements through constitutionally mandated measures have been thwarted by an overreaching and unconstitutional federal Executive Branch in the Department of Justice.
Losing Faith In Our Government
Recently, US Attorney General Merrick Garland called these attempts to restore cogent election laws “discriminatory, burdensome, and unnecessary.”
The faith of the American people is waning where free and fair elections are concerned. The average American expects there to be voter fraud and voter registration fraud in every election, so much so that since 1980 the highest voter turnout stands at 66.9 percent of the voting eligible population. People just don’t believe their votes count because opportunistic politicians have created their own set of election rules; rules that change according to which political party is winning.
As I think back on the media coverage of Detroit, Michigan, polling place supervisors taping posterboard onto the windows of the area in which they would soon be counting ballots to obstruct and exclude the certified poll watchers…
…or how election workers in Pennsylvania were caught filling out ballots to be cast fraudulently…
…or how authorities found bags of discarded but completed ballots in trash cans in Santa Monica, California, almost all of which were cast for Donald Trump…
…I wonder how Ms. Benson’s unconstitutional Executive Branch cabal or Gov. Shapiro’s task force on deciding what is and isn’t “misinformation” are going to safeguard against the blatant ballot and voting fraud that the political Left insists didn’t occur in 2020; ballot and voting fraud that certainly did occur and in every instance benefited the Democrat candidates on the ballots.
Maybe if the legislative branches had passed into law the repeal of election authority to the Executive Branches and done the jobs the Constitution mandated for them regarding the sanctity of the vote, we would have a shot. Only a few states tried and that is quite troublesome.
But, as Democrat Alan Dershowitz is keen to say these days – and remember, he’s a Democrat, we are just a few bananas short of existing as a banana republic. Don’t get me started on how the open borders will complicate things…
