Leftist Activists Prove Points After Being Attacked By Fringe Left Thugs
The irony was spectacular in triplicate. A lesbian activist group protesting against transgender men being incarcerated in women’s prisons identifying their Antifa attackers as men because of their sexual organs, and then making an argument against transgenderism! By comparison, the “Who’s On First” bit by Abbott & Costello was easy to follow.
Unwittingly or not, this episode lends itself to spotlighting just how absurdly obsessed the activist class has become with not only elevating the fringe beyond any reasonable level, but also bullying the entirety of our culture to take a knee to their idea of what is acceptable; their definition of “normal.”
Some Background
As Libby Emmons reported at The Post Millennial:
“Dana Rivers was convicted of the murders of a lesbian couple and their son in 2016. Rivers murdered the women in their home, shot their son to death in the driveway, and set their home on fire to cover the evidence.
“Women protesting the potential placement of a convicted killer in a women’s prison in Oakland, Calif. on Monday were attacked by trans activists...
“‘We did an action this morning on the steps of the Rene C. Davidson Court House,’ [attorney and author Kara Dansky, president of Women’s Declaration International] said, noting that they gave speeches, along with [others]. ‘We just gave talks about how important it is to stand up for the rights of lesbians, for justice for two women who were murdered viciously by Dana Rivers, and their teenage son. And to stand for incarcerated women throughout the state of California, throughout the United States, and all over the world’...
“Trans activists followed the women and attacked them..[t]he Antifa trans activists reveled in their violence...
“‘And all of a sudden,’ Dansky continued, ‘without any provocation at all, a group of men came toward us and shoved an open umbrella into my body, and then proceeded to throw a bunch of pies in our general direction. I got hit in the head by a raw egg. And I’ve got egg dripping all down my shirt inside and outside, I will have you know. That was my experience.’”
Emmons continued to say the Antifa thugs – masked and in black hoodies – numbered 8 to 12. They ripped banners out of the activists’ arms, physically assaulted them, and then escaped into the neighboring community.
“They were quick because they're men,” one activist said, “they could easily overpower us, grab our signs and run away. That's all they were after, they wanted to steal our message from us.”
Some More Background
Joseph MacKinnon reported at The Blaze:
“...Rivers, a national transsexual rights activist and former American Federation of Teachers labor leader, was found guilty in November of butchering two lesbians and murdering their adopted African son.
“Rivers, whose name was originally David Warfield, stabbed 56-year-old Charlotte Reed over 40 times and shot her twice on Nov. 11, 2016. Rivers also shot and stabbed 57-year-old Patricia Wright.
“Before setting fire to the victims' house, the transsexual activist shot 19-year-old Benny Diambu-Wright, who later perished.”
Even More Background
Human Life International describes transgenderism as:
“...an umbrella term. It encompasses anyone who identifies as a gender differing from their biological sex or as no gender at all, or anyone who has had a sex-change operation. A person who is transgender might be a male who identifies as female. She might be a female who identifies as male. A transgender person can identify as neither male nor female. Or he/she could be a person who identifies as a mix of both.
“A transgender male is a person who was born female and who now lives as a male. A transgender female is a person who was born male and who now lives as a female.
“Simply put, individuals who are transgender have a gender identity – an ‘internal, deeply held sense of their gender’ – that differs from their sex at birth.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention – which tends to (as we witnessed during the COVID event) lean towards the sensationalistic in their statistics – about one million people in the United States identify as transgender. That’s approximately 0.6 percent of the American adult population.
Additionally, according to Statista, just 2 percent of the world’s population identifies as “transgender, non-binary/non-conforming/gender-fluid, or in another way”, this based on a survey of people in 27 countries.
The Fringe’s Addiction To Redefinitions & Exaggerations
Let me get this out in the open immediately. I don’t care how anyone identifies with regard to their gender. I simply don’t care. I also don’t care about their sexual peccadillos. What two (or three or eight) consenting adults choose to do in privacy is really none of my business. We can’t be a nation that embraces individualism and then hypocritically judge others’ personal lives short of their committing crimes.
That said, I don’t need to have anyone’s gender activism or their definition of what is normal or abnormal sexual behavior jammed down my throat. I am willing to live and let live; you keep your sexual activities to yourself and I’ll do the same, without judgment or shame. It’s the “your right to throw a punch ends at the tip of my nose” thing. It guarantees everyone the same freedoms, same liberties, and same rights.
But the radical, fringe, activist Left is not down with the idea of respecting other people’s choices. They – and this is on the rise – insist that everyone not only accept their peccadillos, but accept them as part of a never-ending redefinition of the cultural norm. It is nothing short of an intolerant bully tactic that seeks to deny anyone an opinion or belief that doesn’t acquiesce to the activist definition of things. It’s totalitarian.
It defies the eternal verities that our society should be forced to accept as “a new normal” a condition – gender dysphoria – that affects less than two percent globally and 0.6 percent nationally. Yet whole state governments – and the federal government – are crafting and altering laws (like Title IX) to cater and preferentially treat those who are affected by gender dysphoria.
This is not to say that our society shouldn’t understand those who are affected by gender dysphoria and refrain from judging them and/or discriminating against them, but altering the whole of society; the whole of our culture to preferentially cater to a demographic that numbers just over one-half of one percent is farcical.
It can be argued that gender dysphoria is the activist Left’s cause de jour, and that opportunistic kind of thinking; that self-important, self righteous activism almost never makes life better for those who these so-called “activists” are trying to “help.”
The Sweet Irony
Which brings me to the sweet irony of a well-meaning (and, in my opinion, in-the-right) group of lesbian activists – who were protesting biological men being placed in women’s prisons – identifying their attackers as males simply because of their genitalia. And then making the case for the biological fact; the biological truth that there are inalterable differences between biological males and females (I mean, what if the Antifa thugs identified as doorknobs?!).
Dansky and her sister protesters make the same point that NCAA champion swimmer Riley Gaines and others are making about transgender activism. Men and women – regardless of how they choose to identify and regardless of the reason they choose to do so – are physically different and that difference cannot be altered by hormone therapy.
As Gaines points out in a great podcast hosted byTulsi Gabbard, biological men have different physical attributes (larger lungs, intrinsically different muscle and bone mass, and larger airways) than women. This point was reiterated by Dansky and crew,
It can be argued that the transgender activism movement is not only attempting to erase biological fact while also executing a direct assault on the equal rights and feminist movements, but also that it is attempting to bully through a redefinition of the cultural norm.
An Attempt To Make Way For A New ‘Abnormal’
Transgenderism is not something that can exist in the realm of a cultural norm by simple virtue of the numbers of people affected by the designation. The very concept of a societal or cultural norm is that a certain belief about an issue is commonly held; is in the majority mainstream; that is it something that is either embraced by or that affects a majority of society.
That said – and I repeat this to reiterate it, those who are affected by gender dysphoria shouldn’t suffer discrimination, ridicule, or be singled out for different societal treatment.
If we really are an enlightened culture – and a nation that embraces individualism – then we have to be understanding and tolerant of those things that are outside the cultural or societal norms short of things that constitute criminality. We don’t have to embrace or practice them, we just have to be adult enough to recognize the difference and be human enough – American enough – to allow others to enjoy their own individualism; “Judge not lest ye be judged” (Matthew 7:1 for my biblical friends).
Which brings up the motives of the fringe groups trying to move every issue and designation into the realm of “normalcy.” Once every issue – no matter how popular or unpopular; no matter how many people it affects or not – is redefined within the realm of normalcy, doesn’t that leave the door open for redefining what is abnormal? Even if it is something that is legitimately in the mainstream?
How long before the fringe Left attempts to redefine abnormality to include the pursuit of freedom, or liberty, or individualism? How long before they label Capitalism as “abnormal”?
There is always an underlying ulterior motive with the radical, scheming, self-righteous, radical Left. We fail to protect freedom and liberty – we fail to protect our individual and cultural rights – when we stop short of examining their motives through to the end.
