It Is Important for Manchin & Sinema to Stand Their Ground on the Filibuster
As the country commemorated the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., political opportunists – including has-been Hillary Clinton and, regrettably, some of Rev. King’s own family – selfishly co-opted the core meaning of the day to call out two Democrats in the US Senate who have declared their intent to protect the rights of the minority.
The 13-year-old granddaughter of Rev. King, Yolanda Renee King, said "Sen. Sinema, Sen. Manchin, our future hinges on your decision, and history will remember what choice you make."
Her father, Martin Luther King III, said, "They think the real problem isn't that our rights are being stolen – they think the real problem is a disease of division that can be cured with some optimism and conversation...My father worked to bring people together, but he knew that when someone is denying you your fundamental rights, conversation and optimism won't get you very far."
And perhaps one of the most divisive figures in contemporary American politics, two-time failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton (D) – too self-important to address people in person, tweeted:
"MLK Jr. said: 'I had hoped that the white moderate would understand that law and order exist for the purpose of establishing justice, and that when they fail in this purpose they become the dangerously structured dams that block the flow of social progress.' This is a subtweet," Clinton wrote.
US Sens. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), and Joe Manchin (D-WV), have defended protecting the filibuster in the US Senate because it protects the rights of the minority from the totalitarian power of the majority. Far-Left Democrats are furious with the pair as they need to destroy the filibuster if legislation crafted to federalize national elections is to be codified.
Republicans in both the House and Senate are united in opposition to the bill, which they rightly contend is a partisan political power grab.
The proposed legislation prohibits the use of Voter ID – which is overwhelmingly supported by the American people, as well as a plethora of measures that facilitate voter fraud and ballot manipulation and, more importantly, unconstitutionally wrestles purview of federal elections from the states.
In a recent and timely Senate floor speech, Sinema said she and Manchin don’t oppose protecting voting rights, rather, they oppose eliminating the sole mechanism that prevents a tyranny of the majority; the only procedural mechanism in the Senate that stands to protect the rights of the minority; the filibuster.
Why This Is Important
The co-opting of Martin Luther King Day – a day meant to circumvent and marginalize the evils of racism; to dispense with the crippling lenses that judge people by the color of their skin; to confront, chastise, shun, and leave impotent the bigotry of the race-baiting class from both sides of the ideological aisle — to advance a politically opportune and purely partisan political agenda is pathetic and reprehensible. Those doing so should be roundly condemned.
This is not simply my opinion, although I believe it wholeheartedly. The overwhelming response to Mrs. Clinton’s pathetic cry for attention validates my contentions:
"The white liberal differs from the white conservative only in one way: the liberal is more deceitful than the conservative...Both want power, but the white liberal is the one who has perfected the art of posing as the Negro’s friend and benefactor" (BetterWorld2@Socrates091)
"Girl if you don't keep King's name out your mouth! (emoji) Also this is a self-burn." (Dr. CBS)
"Ur not gonna win if u ran. U can cut the theatrics, ms. mass incarceration. (yawning face emoji)" (Mohammed El-Kurd)
"You're the ones Malcolm X warned us against, you garbage dumpster. You're the super predator" (See Jay)
"I remember you mentioning super-predators in the past. Were you referring to bffs Jeffrey and Ghislaine [Maxwell]???" (Lack Excellence)
Additionally, it is incredibly sad that the King family was manipulated into exploiting their patriarch’s commemoration for political purposes. One has to question the intentions of those behind that exploitation for main-staging a 13-year-old to talk politics.
The US Constitution is clear on the purview of the States in federal elections in both Article I, Section 4 and Article II, Section 1:
“The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.”
“Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress...The Electors shall meet in their respective States, and vote by Ballot for two Persons...The Person having the greatest Number of Votes shall be the President...In every Case, after the Choice of the President, the Person having the greatest Number of Votes of the Electors shall be the Vice President...”
The provision in Article I, Section 4 relating to congressional authority to alter “such Regulations,” refers to the scheduling of elections. It does not enable a usurpation of state purview over the federal election process.
So, Sens. Manchin and Sinema are suffering the slings and arrows honed by the far-Left fascist puppet masters and supplied to anyone they can opportunistically place in front of a camera so as to play on the emotions of the public to goad them into applying pressure on Manchin and Sinema to acquiesce to the tyranny of the majority.
Manchin and Sinema should be congratulated for standing up to the bullies of the far-Left, who seek to further remove our federal government from its original version. Manchin and Sinema are doing what any true public servant would do: protect the rights of the minority. That is the bedrock of our Republic.
In our Republic, the people and the states were to be represented so as to provide a check and balance against special interest factions, in this case, the two political parties. The progressives (read: fascists) of the Wilsonian Era damaged those checks and balanced with the direct election of senators who were originally appointed by the state legislatures and meant to serve the best interests of the states respectively.
Today, it is Sinema and Manchin who are standing firm in the protection of the last mechanism that protects the people of the United States from the tyranny of mob rule, i.e. pure democracy, which the Framers despised: the filibuster.
We should all take some time – even if we disagree with them on any and every other thing they support politically – to vocalize our support for their efforts.
