China Takes Aim at the 'Western-Style Democracy Myth' Claiming 'New Democracy'
Building on the misguided concept that the United States is a Democracy instead of a Constitutional Republic, the Communist Chinese are taking aim at the very concept of “democracy” by redefining the reality of the word.
The Communist Chinese officials overseeing Hong Kong’s new electoral system are introducing the vote manipulating ballot constraints as “the new practice of democracy,” verbiage that sets the stage for a further confrontation between Washington and Beijing.
“The standard of whether an election is successful is not how high-profile or bustling it is but if the elected are capable to improve governance,” Liu Guangyuan, the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s commissioner for Hong Kong, said Wednesday. “The development of Hong Kong’s democracy reminds us that it is time to wake up from the ‘Western-style democracy myth,’ put aside bias, and take an objective view over the new practice of democracy in Hong Kong.”
Communist Chinese officials published Liu’s speech propagandizing Hong Kong’s “democratic progress” in English in an effort to advance a false narrative legitimacy for Beijing’s totalitarian political program.
Experts believe the disingenuous verbiage suggests Communist Chinese officials believe they have an effective rhetorical strategy for political influence in vulnerable democracies worldwide.
US Army War College research professor Evan Ellis, a former member of the State Department policy planning staff, said, “They're getting more assertive, and their marketing is getting better — now they're starting to use a discourse that is designed to be acceptable in the West…By talking about ‘democracy’ and not talking about a system, they not only legitimize it their own terms but they position themselves better with other audiences.”
Germany’s Reinhard Bütikofer, the head of the European Parliament’s China delegation, rebuked the concept saying, “We shouldn't forget that the citizens of Hong Kong have already returned a verdict on that propaganda crap by not participating in the election in any meaningful numbers.”
Why This Is Important
It is as if it was by design. For almost a century the fascist Left in the United States has insisted on calling the United States a “democracy” when, in fact, it is a Constitutional Republic.
Our Republic uses a democratic electoral system to elect representatives to the federal government and the 50 State Houses. Our electoral system has safeguards crafted to protect the minority from the tyranny of the mob mentality, which the Framers understood democracy to be.
The Framers were quite clear on the dangers of democracy when creating our Constitutional Republic:
"We are now forming a Republican form of government. Real liberty is not found in the extremes of democracy, but in moderate governments. If we incline too much to democracy we shall soon shoot into a monarchy, or some other form of a dictatorship." – Alexander Hamilton
"A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine." – Thomas Jefferson
“Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!” – Benjamin Franklin
“Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself.” – John Adams
“[Pure democracies] have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths.” – James Madison
And so it is interesting that those born of the fascist Wilsonian era (read: contemporary Progressives, Social Democrats, and the Social Justice crusaders) insist that the American form of government is a Democracy.
The assertion rolls of their tongues every time they talk about our form of government:
“American democracy is an ongoing struggle to live up to our highest ideals and to heal our divisions; to recommit ourselves to the founding idea of our nation captured in our Declaration of Independence, not unlike many of your documents… Democracy doesn’t happen by accident. We have to renew it with each generation.” – Joe Biden
“...but now we are engaged in a very serious unfortunate but real battle for our democracy against forces, either led by or inspired by Donald Trump.” – Hillary Clinton
“I think [the re-election of Donald Trump] could be the end of our democracy not to be too pointed about it, but I want people to understand that this is a make or break point.” – Hillary Clinton
“Our democracy, our individual opportunity only exists because those who came before us had the wisdom and the courage to recognize that our ideals will only endure if we see our self-interest in the success of other peoples and other nations.” – Barack Obama
“And this is something that I emphasize wherever I go – democracy does not stop on Election Day. For a real democracy to work, and for a society to thrive and continually improve, it requires that people continue to participate.” – Barack Obama
So, is it by transformative design that the Communist Chinese – seeing the opportunity to exploit a weak US presidency – now seek to disingenuously redefine the very meaning of democracy, ignoring the fact that the United States is not a democracy and has never sought to instill democracies anywhere in the world?
From its genesis in the United States, the cancerous fascism born of the Wilson administration (couched as “Progressivism”) has sought to replace true representative government with the oligarchic rule of elites. Today, that transformation is in full swing unless We the People start rethinking how we vote.
The American people have been sold on the false narrative that politics is government and that activists are politicians. Neither of these concepts is true. In fact, George Washington, in his Farewell Address, warned us of the poison political factions would inject into our Constitutional Republic.
Further, the deceitfulness of selling community activists as true-hearted public servants suitable for elected office has only served to advance the affairs of special interests and Balkanize our nation’s citizenry.
Our Constitution, along with our Bill of Rights, created a Constitutional Republic that was crafted to be limited in its ability to encroach on our individual freedoms; on our individualism. Our nation was crafted to support and encourage individual achievement with limited interference from government; a nation of laws, not men, and laws that were applicable without eyes toward elevating one faction over another.
If we are to remain a free people, we must reclaim our power over government, at every level, and install true public servants to represent the pure interests of all. Today we are incredibly far away from that reality.
