A Gulf By Any Other Name…
Recently, President-elect Donald Trump made a statement about wanting to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America.” This sparked a rebuttal by Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, in which she stated that the United States should be renamed “Mexican America.” Both statements serve no purpose other than the measurement of appendages.
Let me get this out of the way. I know some regular readers and listeners may get their feathers ruffled by what I have to say. But movements—successful movements—are never, ever about one individual. So, I ask that you keep that in mind while you consume my thoughts on this issue.
This is a perfect example of where I disagree with the President-elect. The "Gulf of America" comment did nothing to further relations with the socialist President of Mexico. It only served to create a deeper alienation. In any situation, corporate or political, this is counterproductive to achieving greater goals.
Don't get me wrong, I love that Trump is "The Great Disruptor." He should go down in history under that honorific. Washington needs exactly that: to be disrupted, reduced, reformed, and restrained. Trump can do that if we ally with him in keeping the pressure on our elected Deep State creatures and the non-elected potentates who need our money to remain in the elitist class. But Trump gives his “lesser-thans” ammunition to mock him in the public arena—and through him, the very movement he represents—over things like this that have no intrinsic value to the American people or the people of the free world.
The United States has approximately 1,680 miles of mainland coastline along the Gulf of Mexico, while Mexico has approximately 1,743 miles. Although the two countries are close by comparison, Mexico has more claim to the moniker than the US simply by proximal points.
But more to the point, the Gulf of Mexico has been known by that name since the early 16th century, over 200 years before our nation was even born. The name "Gulf of Mexico" was first used by Spanish explorers during their expeditions in the early 1500s. Specifically, it appears on maps and in documents from around 1513, following Juan Ponce de León's voyage to Florida in 1513, where he named the body of water "Golfo de México." To assume that the government of the United States can just demand the name be changed to what it wants in 2025 is the stuff that makes people conjure up the very image of the "ugly American."
The freedom and opportunity that we, as a nation, have to offer, the freedom and opportunity that we have helped others to acquire through the expenditure of blood and treasure, that is the fuel to Trump's Deep State "disrupt, reduce, reform, and restrain" agenda, not meaningless agitation that only serves to undermine the effort for insignificant reasons.
If we had a mainstream media complex that wasn't fully weaponized by the neo-Marxist Left, this matter wouldn’t be fodder for attacking the man who leads a very serious and necessary movement. If we had honest and sincere leadership in our major political parties—especially on the Left, we wouldn’t have to worry about how they will collect statements like these to harness and cultivate objection among the politically and ideologically illiterate population. But we have both, and because we do, Mr. Trump simply must stop making unnecessary statements like the “Gulf of America” statement.
When a man leads a movement as important as the one Mr. Trump has cultivated—and especially to the point where he receives an undisputable mandate from the American people to achieve the goals he has set —a high level of responsibility comes with it.
There are very important things to be done, and nefarious opposition waits in the wings for any chance to toss that proverbial wrench into the machine. Mr. Trump—and we as a nation and a movement—can’t be wasting time with the inconsequential, the pretentious, or the jejune.

This is frosting, let's build the cake with its many layers first. President Trump, keep your promises to the electorate first then you can "play".
You are absolutely right. Trump has an ugly habit of open mouth, insert foot. Changing the name of the gulf is humorous at best. Or planning a large gathering the day Before the inauguration just gives fuel to his enemies. Smart man, but boy he does dumb things.
