Pres. Trump took to twisting the arms of House Republicans in a high-stakes bid to get an Obamacare replacement bill passed this week. With the push back one would think the House and the Senate were controlled by Democrats. The chaotic reality of the GOP effort prompted Trump to infer that primary challenges would be supported if legislators didn't get their sh*t together.
Such is the bully pulpit as administered by Donald Trump. If you're not going to do what you promised to do - and understand that it may have to be done through a process is that "omnibus" in style - you are going to be run-over.
That said, one of the big stumbling blocks to fiscal hawks supporting the current bill - a bill that is fluid and still subject to dramatic change, is the employment of tax credits for those who purchase health insurance and who satisfy the means testing. Some complain this is nothing more than a government subsidy.
Now, how in the hell is me keeping more of my hard-earned money; not sending my wages to Washington for them to spend it on turtle tunnels and dysfunctional regulatory agency efforts, seen as a "subsidy"? It is me getting to keep more of my money - my money, not the government's due, my money!
When fiscal hawks start talking about our money as if it is owed them we have a really big problem in Washington.
