The US Supreme Court has sent a dispute over a Virginia transgender student's bathroom access back to a lower court, without reaching a decision, forcing the lower court in Virginia to evaluate the federal law known as Title IX and the extent to which it applies to transgender students. The court vacated the current dispute after the Trump administration withdrew support for an Obama administration order supporting transgender students.
This highlights two issues, at least. First, this is the reason that the Trump Administration - and the drag-foot Republicans in Congress - needs to get the big issues of Obamacare and Tax reform done immediately. We need to have the tie-breaking vote setaed on the US Supreme Court.
Second, perhaps this is a good time to suggest that we get rid of cattle-call bathrooms in schools. Many places in Europe have a common area where sinks are located for hand-washing, but toilets in individual small rooms, complete with locking doors, that lead from the hand-washing areas. While I understand this issue is larger than that, this presents a logical solution to a volatile situation.
I don't condemn those who feel they have gender issues. That's their business. But when they force me to engage in their issues, especially when their numbers are so minute, it bastardizes my rights to cater to their perceived right. Access to a bathroom is not a freaking civil rights issue, it's access to a room for the execution of a bodily function.
