According to an eco-zealot panelist, who just happens to be a pro-social justice advocate, Pope Francis was said to be urging people to have fewer children in order to make the world more sustainable, having made the comments during a Vatican-run workshop.
While th Pope has never tried to hide his Socialist leanings, this second-hand account of the Pontiff's words raises an eyebrow, and for good reason.
According to Genesis 1:28, God himself mandated man to "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it..." So, the report of the Pope's words claiming to want people not to multiply is a direct contradiction of God's word.
This is the danger that the Catholic Church has fallen into during my lifetime: politicizing the mandate of the Church. Pope Francis, with all due respect, is an eco-zealot and a quasi-socialist. And even though these truths should not preclude him from his station, he has a responsibility to his flock not to inject his person opinion on non-spiritual things onto his people from the pulpit.
Yes, religions of all creeds fall prey to politicization, but it is the responsibility of religious leaders no fight that politicization and to guide their congregations to the word and will of God, not the will and false-words of special interest groups and power-mongers.
