The Dept. of Homeland Security has issued a ban on electronics larger than a smart phone on flights from eight countries predominantly Muslim countries: Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. DHS cites intelligence about terrorism risks as the reason for the move.
But, of course, the usual suspects are shrieking that this ban is an affront to religious liberties and the First Amendment because it discriminates against Muslims.
This is a perfect example of how the blindly ideological dismiss the realities of the world. Even Progressive-Leftist Rep. Adam Schiff (P-CA), was quick to acquiesce to the directive after being briefed by DHS officials on the catalyst for the move.
But that won't stop those who fail to consume necessary information to accurately base a judgment; form an opinion from declaring that they know all there is to know in their condemnation of the move.
Incidentally, other nations around the world are implementing this ban because of the intelligence acquired. Further, and this is the more important point, the ban does not discriminate against anyone based on their country of origin or their religious beliefs. It affects everyone - regardless of nationality or religion - who travels through those countries and on certain airlines dominant in those locales.
Of course, this defiance for ideology's sake is madness; it is illogical and emotionally knee-jerk. It is exactly what our nation's people need to not do if we are to become a nation that employs common sense in all things once again. We need to come back from the ledge of defiance for political and ideological purposes...
