Variety magazine announced that it will honor Chelsea Clinton, daughter of failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and impeached President Bill Clinton, at its Women in Power luncheon with a “Lifetime achievement award.” Chelsea accepting such an award at the tender age of 37 confirmed the “out-of-touch elite” narrative many have foisted on the elites in media and in Washington.
I have nothing against Chelsea Clinton. She is not responsible for her parents actions, ideology or legal transgressions. I would like to think that she is a good person, and maybe some of what she has accomplished is commendable. But at 37 a person's life hasn't even begun, really. So giving a 37 year old a "lifetime achievement" award is simply ridiculous.
Instead of the move being an honor, it is literally an embarrassment because it transparently displays a motive; that of the elites on the coasts trying to disingenuously pad her resume for what many see as an inevitable run for office.
By accepting this "award," Chelsea Clinton is telegraphing to the American people and the world that she is cut of the same cloth as her parents, two political opportunists who see nothing wrong in deceiving the people to gain power and wealth.
If Chelsea were bright - and at this point the jury hasn't even been seated to judge that yet, she would turn down the award citing the ridiculousness of it at her age. If she does that, she will have already been seen as more like her father - a shred political tactician - and less like her mother, a shrill, disliked twice-failed presidential candidate who disingenuously padded her resume from the beginning.
