A Canadian man who was found not criminally responsible for beheading and cannibalizing a fellow passenger on a Greyhound bus has been granted his freedom. Manitoba’s Criminal Code Review Board announced Friday it has given Will Baker, formerly known as Vince Li, an absolute discharge, meaning he is longer subject to monitoring.
The rationale behind this insane decision is that when Baker/Li is on his meds he can control his diagnosed schizophrenia. Of course there is now no means to monitor whether Baker/Li is continuing on his meds because the court has released him completely from any supervision or monitoring.
This is a huge gamble. It's not as though Baker/Li simply acted violently in his schizophrenic state, he killed and ate - killed and ate - his unsuspecting victim. Shouldn't that reality at least mandate that the courts order him to maintain, ad infinitum, psychiatric treatment?
